Canada is welcoming a fresh wave of newcomers – many of whom have the potential to fill significant labour gaps while driving innovation across countless industries.

With over one million immigrants coming to Canada in 2022 — and another 1.5 million expected over the next three years – the country has a unique opportunity to engage the newcomer talent pool.

In this paper, we explore key learnings from industries best working with newcomer talent and zero in on what job seekers, workers and employers may need to succeed based on our latest research findings.

You will discover:

  • The main challenges newcomers face in the job market and in the workplace
  • The programs available to integrate newcomers into the Canadian labour market
  • Steps you can take to reduce the barriers newcomers face in the labour market

Although our primary study could slice within multiple demographics, in this paper, we focus on newcomers only, regardless of age, gender, gender identity, income, and race. In our study, newcomers are individuals who have had residency in Canada for less than five years.

Newcomers bring enormous potential. HR leaders and talent acquisition decision-makers can employ immigrants to solve many prominent workforce challenges – and create a thriving, diverse, and inclusive workforce. Organizations and hiring leaders like you should understand the unique needs and experiences of these diverse professionals and create meaningful pathways for ongoing success.
