On June 16, 2021, our international conference, Indeed Interactive, went virtual for the first time, gathering thought leaders, CEOs and other experts from all across the globe to share their thoughts on what it means to reimagine recruiting.

We wanted to keep the conversation and the insights flowing, so we asked three of our speakers this burning question: How will hiring change in the future?

Here’s what they had to say.

Scott Bonneau

When asked how he thinks the future of hiring will change, Scott Bonneau, Vice President of U.S. Global Talent Attraction, speaks to the idea of a less conventional and more people-oriented approach.

“One way that I think hiring is going to change over the course of the next 10 years is we are going to move away from the more cookie-cutter approach of bland job descriptions and blasé resumes, and start looking at not what the requirements of a job are, but what the qualities of employees and people that we want to have in our organizations are going to be,” says Scott.

Although he thinks it will be a long process, Scott believes that we can make progress with both the proper technology and an equal opportunity mindset.

“I think technology can aid that in some ways, but we also need to make sure that we are doing that in an equitable way, making sure that we're creating opportunity for all job seekers,” says Scott.

Carmen Bryant

Virtual technology may have a role to play in hiring in a more equitable way, as it has the potential to make the hiring process more accessible to job seekers around the globe.

“Even when we go back in person, virtual interviewing, virtual hiring, virtual onboarding will continue, and we'll see that manifest in how we find talent, where they're located, how we think about collaborating,'' says Carmen Bryant, Director of U.S. Marketing at Indeed.

Carmen believes this increase in digitalization will contribute to a more inclusive hiring environment over the next 10 years.

“Hopefully, what we'll also see is our efforts to provide more inclusivity will also start to transition to things like AI ethics, where we can use data and technology to actually have an impact,” she says.

Rob Williams

Finally, technology was also on the mind of Rob Williams, Director of Global Account Marketing in London. He shares his thoughts on how the future of hiring will bring technological advances to better improve the candidate matching experience.

“I think technology is going to play a much bigger role in the future. I mean, we have some great technology today, but I think we're going to have really great technology in the future, particularly technology that helps match a candidate's skills, their aptitude, their competency to open roles that companies have and are hiring for,” says Rob.

Technology will continue to shape the future of hiring

Although there are many ways hiring will evolve, advancements in technology will continue to play a large part in this growth. Whatever the future has in store for hiring, we know we can rely on new and improved tools to help us build a better world of work.
