Job Description – PAINT ESTIMATOR

The position of Estimator will require you to determine the scope of work, create estimates, and send them to our clients for review. You will also procure quotes from subtrades & suppliers, perform take-offs, and review plans in detail.

Skills & Requirements

  • Develop painting estimates and bids using Quick Bid and complete takeoffs using On-Screen Takeoff
  • Good understanding of the paint trade processes and materials used/needed
  • Ability to work in a high pace environment and adhere to schedules and deadlines
  • Highly developed negotiating skills that take the company’s best interest and client relationships into consideration
  • Understand the painting scope of work
  • Read building plans, specifications, and must be able to read drawings
  • Understand and navigate building codes, contractual terms, and conditions
  • Perform site measuring as required
  • Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects
  • Excellent use of time management
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Extreme attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

Responsibilities

Estimating

  • Take offs – counting amounts of materials/labour needed to complete the job
  • Determine equipment and material requirements
  • Request and manage pricing from sub-trades/vendors
  • Pricing/quoting – put a dollar value to materials/labour
  • Adjust costs to account for profit, overhead and indirect costs
  • Write up quote to present to client
  • Receive client feedback on quotes and adjust pricing if needed
  • Price additional work/extras that have been added to existing contracts
  • Ensure timely completion of estimates

Education & Training

  • Grade 12, GED or equivalent
  • Relevant trade experience
  • Estimating courses and/or certifications
  • Knowledge of current provincial and municipal building codes
  • Working knowledge of computers and applications (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Cell phone
  • Vehicle

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Ask for training before beginning any task if they do not know how to do it safely

  • Immediately report any injury to a First Aid Attendant or Supervisor
  • Take the initiative and make suggestions to improve Health & Safety
  • Report to your supervisor any impairments you suffer from (prescriptions or otherwise)
