About Savoury Chef

Savoury Chef is a premium catering company known for creating polished, thoughtful, and memorable food experiences for corporate clients, private hosts, weddings, celebrations, and special events. Our work combines restaurant-quality food, warm hospitality, strong logistics, and a high level of care from the first inquiry through final execution.

We are looking for experienced, dependable Casual Event Managers to join our events team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys leading a team, and takes pride in delivering exceptional hospitality and seamless event execution.

Position Overview

The Casual Event Manager is responsible for leading the on-site execution of Savoury Chef events, including corporate functions, weddings, private celebrations, receptions, and large-scale events.

You will lead front-of-house staff, coordinate with culinary and operations teams, oversee setup and service, communicate with clients and vendors, and ensure each event runs smoothly from arrival through final pack-out.

This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong organization, communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site event setup, service, and teardown.
  • Review event details, menus, timelines, floor plans, staffing, and client requirements.
  • Conduct staff briefings and delegate responsibilities to servers and bartenders.
  • Ensure event spaces, tables, bars, buffets, food stations, and service areas meet Savoury Chef standards.
  • Monitor event timelines and adjust priorities as needed throughout service.
  • Coordinate with culinary teams on food timing, dietary requirements, replenishment, and service.
  • Act as a professional point of contact for clients, planners, venues, and vendors when required.
  • Lead front-of-house staff with clear direction, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
  • Ensure staff follow uniform, service, food safety, and workplace expectations.
  • Oversee teardown and ensure equipment, supplies, rentals, and event materials are packed and accounted for.
  • Communicate event updates, client feedback, staffing concerns, damages, shortages, or operational issues to the Event Operations team.

What We're Looking For

The ideal Event Manager is confident, organized, professional, and calm under pressure. You can lead a team while also jumping in wherever needed and understand how to anticipate problems before they affect the guest experience.

You should enjoy hospitality, communicate clearly, and understand that the Event Manager sets the tone for both the team and the event.

Qualifications

  • Previous catering, event, restaurant, hotel, banquet, or hospitality experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of front-of-house service and event flow.
  • Confident leading servers, bartenders, and event staff.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable communicating professionally with clients, planners, vendors, and venue teams.
  • Knowledge of food, menus, dietary restrictions, and event service styles is an asset.
  • Reliable, punctual, adaptable, and able to remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with culinary, operations, logistics, and sales teams.
  • Comfortable with the physical requirements of events, including extended periods of standing, walking, setup, and teardown.
  • Familiarity with Vancouver and Greater Vancouver venues is an asset.

Availability

This is a casual, event-based position with shifts scheduled according to event volume.

Candidates must be available for a minimum of three shifts per month. Evening and weekend availability is important, with additional shifts available during busy periods.

Why Join Savoury Chef?

At Savoury Chef, every event matters. Whether we are catering a corporate reception, private dinner, wedding, celebration, or large-scale event, our goal is to deliver food and service that feels thoughtful, professional, and memorable.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced hospitality professional looking for flexible event work while being part of a consistent, professional, and passionate catering team.
