Full job description

Accounts Payable Clerk / Accounting Assistant

Full-Time | Vancouver, BC | Reports to: Controller

About VPAC Construction

VPAC Construction is a growing construction company known for delivering quality projects and building lasting client relationships. As we scale our operations, we're strengthening our accounting team to support accurate, timely financial management across all our projects.

About the Role

We're looking for a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Clerk / Accounting Assistant to join our accounting team. This role is the backbone of our day-to-day accounting operations — processing vendor invoices, managing accounts payable, supporting cash reconciliations, and helping the team close the books each month. It's a great opportunity for someone who wants hands-on experience across the full accounting cycle in a construction environment, with room to grow within the department.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

• Enter and code incoming vendor invoices accurately and on schedule

• Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documentation

• Process weekly AP check/EFT payment runs and release approved vendor payments within set limits

• Respond to routine vendor payment inquiries and maintain positive vendor relationships

• Review monthly AP aging and flag items needing attention

Cash, Banking & Reconciliations

• Post customer cash receipts and payments

• Reconcile weekly and monthly credit card transactions

• Perform monthly bank reconciliations across all accounts

• Review monthly AR aging

Month-End Close & Reporting Support

• Support execution of the month-end close checklist

• Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and journal entry preparation as needed

• Support preparation and filing of sales/payroll tax returns

Documentation & Compliance

• File and organize accounting documentation (digital and physical) in an audit-ready manner

• Monitor and respond to the shared accounting inbox

• Archive and retain financial records in accordance with the company's retention policy

• Support external audits and internal control reviews as needed

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in accounts payable, bookkeeping, or a junior accounting role (construction or project-based industry experience a plus)

• Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience

• Familiarity with accounting/ERP software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar construction accounting platforms) preferred

• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills

• Comfortable managing multiple invoices and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• Effective communicator, able to work cross-functionally with Project Accountants, the Controller, and HR

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Pay: $48,000.00-$58,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
