Full job description
This is a hands-on production role.
RYCO Properties is looking for a Video & Content Producer who can take ideas and turn them into high-quality creative work across Marlborough Mall and RYCO's broader real estate and development portfolio.
The priority is execution. You'll spend most of your time shooting video, creating professional product and commercial photography, editing, designing creative assets and capturing stories on location.
We're not looking for someone to lead marketing strategy. You'll work directly with the Director of Marketing, who will lead overall marketing and social strategy. Your role is to bring the technical production ability, creative eye and platform awareness to execute it well.
You don't need to be exceptional at everything on day one. Strong production fundamentals, curiosity and an eagerness to learn matter. There is a lot of ground to cover, and we're looking for someone excited to build.
What We're Looking For
1. Video Production
This is the core of the role.
You can confidently plan, shoot and edit video yourself. You understand cameras, framing, movement, lighting, audio, pacing and post-production.
You'll produce short-form content, interviews, event coverage, tenant features, construction updates and corporate storytelling. You should be able to receive a concept or creative direction and determine how to execute it, from equipment and shot selection through editing and final delivery.
2. Product & Commercial Photography
This is a major part of the role and an important distinction from traditional event or portrait photography.
Marlborough Mall has more than 100 businesses, and many need stronger visual assets to showcase what they sell. You'll regularly photograph food, products, merchandise, storefronts, retail environments and people for use across social media, campaigns and other marketing.
You need to know how to make something look desirable.
That could mean walking into a food court restaurant, working with the lighting and space available, styling a meal and creating photography that makes someone want to come try it. It could mean photographing clothing, jewelry, beauty products or merchandise inside an independent retailer that has never had a professional product shoot.
You should understand lighting, composition, styling and photo editing well enough to turn everyday retail environments into polished commercial content.
3. Editing & Graphic Production
You'll edit your own photo and video work and help turn campaign concepts into finished creative assets.
That can include social graphics, posters, signage, event materials and adaptations across print and digital formats. You don't need to be a dedicated graphic designer, but you should have a strong visual eye and understand typography, composition, hierarchy and brand consistency.
4. Drone Production
RYCO's development portfolio creates an ongoing need to document projects as they evolve.
A key responsibility will be capturing regular aerial photo and video of active development and construction sites, including weekly progress content when projects are active.
Professional drone experience is an asset, particularly in real estate, development or construction. Transport Canada certification is strongly preferred, or you should be willing and able to obtain the appropriate certification.
5. Social Content
You'll help turn what we capture into content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn.
The Director of Marketing will lead overall social media strategy. You should bring an understanding of the mediums and a creative eye for how content should be treated differently across them.
We don't expect you to arrive knowing every answer. If TikTok is a strength but LinkedIn isn't, or you're a strong producer still developing another part of your social skill set, that's okay. What matters is that you're curious, paying attention and eager to learn.
We want someone who can eventually look at a piece of content and say, “This treatment works for Instagram, but I'd approach the TikTok differently,” and help make the work better.
What You'll Actually Do
This is a high-output, on-location role. A typical week could include:
- Shooting and editing short-form video
- Producing professional product, food and retail photography for Marlborough Mall tenants
- Setting up and filming interviews with business owners, partners, community members and RYCO stakeholders
- Capturing regular drone photo and video of active RYCO development projects
- Photographing events, people, properties and community activations
- Setting up and operating cameras, microphones, lighting and stabilization equipment
- Editing photography and video through final delivery
- Turning one shoot into multiple useful pieces of content
- Designing and adapting campaign assets across social, print and signage
- Managing a high volume of creative requests, often 5–10+ per week, with individual concepts sometimes becoming multiple deliverables
- Covering events and activations in real time
- Walking Marlborough Mall and proactively identifying products, businesses and people worth featuring
- Building relationships with tenants and helping people who aren't accustomed to being photographed or interviewed feel comfortable
- Organizing footage, photography and project files so strong assets can be reused
Some assignments will come with a detailed creative brief.
Others may simply be:
“There's something interesting happening downstairs. Go find the story.”
You need to be comfortable with both.
The Person We're Looking For
We're looking for a doer who enjoys making things.
You have a strong foundation in video production and commercial photography and can work independently behind the camera. You can take creative direction, solve the technical execution and keep multiple projects moving without needing every step prescribed.
You're comfortable working outside of perfect studio conditions. A tenant may have poor lighting, limited space and no existing marketing assets. An interview subject may never have been on camera. An event may only give you one opportunity to capture the moment. You should enjoy figuring out how to make those situations work.
You're also organized, approachable and willing to move quickly. There is a substantial amount of content to build initially, particularly quality tenant product photography, food photography, interviews and ongoing development footage.
We value eagerness. If you have strong fundamentals and an area of the role isn't yet your strongest skill, we want someone motivated to learn it rather than avoid it.
Tools & Experience
We're interested in experience with a combination of:
Video: Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve and/or CapCut
Photography: Lightroom and Photoshop
Design: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and/or Canva
Production: DSLR/mirrorless cameras, microphones, lighting and stabilization
Drone: DJI or comparable professional drone systems
Social: Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn
You don't need to know every program or be equally strong in every discipline.
What matters most is that you can demonstrate high-quality work you've personally produced, have strong technical fundamentals and want to keep improving.
To Apply
Please submit your resume through this posting and send your portfolio or links to recent work to marketing@rycoproperties.ca.
Your portfolio is more important to us than a specific degree or number of years in the industry.
We're particularly interested in seeing:
- Video you personally shot and edited
- Product, food, retail or other commercial photography
- Interviews or people-focused content
- Graphic design work
- Drone work, if available
For collaborative projects, please be clear about what you personally produced.
If you have drone experience, please include examples and indicate your current Transport Canada drone certification, if applicable.
Candidates selected to move forward will begin with a short video interview followed by an in-person creative interview.
Application question(s):
- Do you have professional experience photographing products, food or retail merchandise for commercial or marketing use?
- Do you have professional experience independently shooting and editing video, including setting up your own camera, lighting and audio when required?
- Can you provide a portfolio that includes work you personally produced showing both commercial/product photography and video production?
Work Location: In person
