MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Reports to: Senior Vice President, Operations (Administrative) | Chief Health & Operating Officer (Functional for medical governance)

Position Mandate

A Medical Director for a virtual menopause clinic is a licensed physician who provides clinical leadership, regulatory oversight, and medical governance for menopause care services delivered remotely, ensuring evidence-based, safe, and compliant care.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Operations, the Medical Director ensures physicians deliver safe, evidence-based, consistent, and patient-centered care in accordance with professional obligations, provincial regulations, and Effica Health’s care methodology.

Core Responsibilities

1. Interdisciplinary care delivery

• Lead the day-to-day delivery of physician services across the patient journey.
• Collaborate with the Director, Interdisciplinary Care to maintain clear roles, workflows and handoffs among physicians, Collaborative Care Practitioners (CCPs), Collaborative Care Coordinators (CCCs), Expert Consult providers and coaches.
• Resolve operational issues affecting access, continuity, appointment completion or patient experience.
• Ensure physician services follow Effica Health’s methodology of care, care pathways and approved clinical standards.

2. Leadership and performance

• Provide direct leadership, priorities and performance expectations for physicians.
• Monitor individual and team performance and provide timely feedback, coaching and development.
• Address physician performance concerns, team dynamics and barriers to effective care delivery.
• Build a collaborative, accountable, responsive and patient-centered team environment.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for physicians.

3. Capacity and workforce operations

• Collaborate with the Director, Interdisciplinary Care to monitor patient volumes, appointment availability, workloads, coverage and service capacity.
• Coordinate schedules and coverage to support timely access and continuity of care.
• Identify workforce risks and support recruitment, selection, onboarding and credentialing as services grow.
• Approve vacation and leave for direct reports while maintaining appropriate coverage.
• Ensure providers have the information, training, tools and operational support required to perform their roles.

4. Clinical governance, quality, patient safety and privacy

• Lead physician-practice governance within the framework, methodology, policies and standards established by the Chief Health & Operating Officer and implemented by the Senior Vice President, Operations.
• Ensure physicians comply with clinical policies, standards of practice, documentation requirements and privacy obligations.
• Monitor quality and patient-safety indicators and lead the initial response to care concerns and incidents.
• Document, investigate and address issues within delegated authority, and escalate clinical, safety or privacy risks promptly.
• Support audits, corrective actions, policy implementation, education and regulatory readiness.
• Participate in clinical and privacy review of material changes to interdisciplinary services, workflows and technology.

5. Service improvement and growth

• Use operating and quality information to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with the Director, Interdisciplinary Care to support the continuous improvement of workflows, team practices and patient experience.
• Collaborate with the Director, Interdisciplinary Care to implement new services, workflows, technology and organizational initiatives affecting interdisciplinary care.
• Partner with the Director, Interdisciplinary Care to strengthen medical-interdisciplinary coordination and resolve shared care-delivery issues.
• Provide the Senior Vice President, Operations with clear visibility into performance, capacity, risks and required decisions.

Education & Training

Required

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent medical degree from a recognized medical school.
• Current, unrestricted licence to practise medicine in the province you reside in, with eligibility to obtain additional provincial/territorial licensure where required by Effica Health’s service model.
• Certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC), or equivalent recognized Canadian specialty certification.
• Demonstrated continuing professional development relevant to the physician’s scope of practice and leadership responsibilities.

Preferred

• Additional education, certification or demonstrated advanced training in menopause, women’s health, midlife health, reproductive health or a related clinical area.
• Formal education or professional development in medical leadership, healthcare administration, clinical governance, quality improvement or patient safety.
• Training or demonstrated competency in virtual care, interdisciplinary care and digitally enabled models of healthcare delivery.
• Education or experience in physician performance management, practice review, peer review or clinical quality assurance.
• Graduate-level education in healthcare administration, business, public health, health leadership or a related discipline is an asset.

Pay: $210.00-$215.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15.0 per week
