Cedars Assisted Living at Hopehill Society (Cedars at Hopehill) is a not‑for‑profit charitable organization that provides housing and care for older adults in Vancouver. Cedars at Hopehill operates in cooperation with Hopehill. Our mission is a caring community that provides affordable housing and assisted living for maturing adults. We strive to build a safe and healthy neighbourhood for all our residents to call home.

As a Recreation Coordinator, you will be responsible for developing and delivering recreational and social programs that support residents’ well‑being and quality of life. You will plan a range of activities that reflect the interests and abilities of our seniors, encouraging social connection, engagement, and enjoyment in daily life. Hopehill values thoughtful collaboration, consistency, and shared learning across teams and sites. This role plays an important part in supporting a connected community life approach across our campuses.

JOB SUMMARY

Hopehill is seeking a Recreation Coordinator on a permanent basis (30–37.5 hours per week). Reporting to the Cedars at Hopehill Manager, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for recreation and activity programming for residents at Cedars and works closely with the Hopehill Community Team to support collaboration and alignment of programming across Hopehill’s independent and assisted living communities. The Recreation Coordinator is expected to provide respectful, compassionate service and engage with residents, families, and colleagues with kindness, patience, and professionalism. They will carry out their duties in accordance with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (“CBWC”) Statement of Faith and CBWC Cultural Statement. Ability to speak Mandarin/Cantonese is an asset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate recreational and social activities that support residents’ independence, personal choice, abilities, and quality of life, in keeping with person‑centred assisted living principles.
  • Develop programs that promote social connection, cognitive and physical activation, life skills, and meaningful engagement, while respecting residents’ rights, dignity, and diverse needs.
  • Collaborate with Independent Living, and Assisted Living teams to support alignment and shared approaches to programming across Hopehill community.
  • Develop and maintain a monthly activities calendar that reflects resident interests and input; provide guidance and instruction to activity workers as appropriate.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and continuously improve recreational programs based on resident feedback, participation, and observed outcomes.
  • Facilitate resident forums and opportunities for resident engagement and input
  • Observe, assess, and document residents’ social and recreational needs; share relevant information with the care team in accordance with assisted living care planning processes.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary team meetings to support individualized service planning and coordinated care.
  • Identify community, cultural, and facility‑based resources that enhance resident programming and support inclusion and accessibility.
  • Support an inclusive, home‑like environment that respects cultural diversity and individual preferences.
  • Monitor program expenditures; assist with budget planning; maintain inventory of equipment, tools, and supplies; and recommend purchases in alignment with program needs and organizational policies.
  • Comply with assisted living legislation, organizational policies, and health and safety requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from a recognized Therapeutic Recreation program (preferable 4-year degree) plus a minimum of 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Experience working with seniors
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certification and FoodSafe Level 1 (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
  • Unrestricted Class 4 Driver’s Licence is considered an asset

  • Physically able to perform the duties of the position safely
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Ability to speak Mandarin and/or Cantonese is an asset

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $32.00-$33.00 per hour
