Full job description

UI/UX Designer (Figma) — with React Front-End

Location: Remote Type: Full-time, Permanent About us: www.Lys-ia.com

About the Work

We have an existing application that needs to be revamped for mobile, alongside a roadmap of new features to design and build. You'll be the person who takes it from where it is today to a modern, responsive product that works as well on a phone as it does on a desktop.

This means starting at the beginning — sitting with business stakeholders and the product owner to understand what's needed and why — then designing the screens, and working alongside the development team to get them built correctly.

The Role — 60% Design / 40% Front-End

You'll own the design of the product end to end in Figma, then help bring your own work to life in React. Roughly 60% of your time is design, and the remaining 40% is front-end implementation when design work is between cycles.

This is a good fit if you're a designer who likes shipping, not a full-time engineer looking for a design title.

Design (primary — ~60%)

  • Work directly with business stakeholders and the product owner to gather requirements, understand the problem, and turn vague asks into clear, buildable designs.
  • Ask the questions nobody asked yet — edge cases, error states, what happens when there's no data, what the user is actually trying to do.
  • Map out user flows, information architecture and wireframes before jumping to visuals.
  • Design high-fidelity screens in Figma for both desktop and mobile, including the mobile revamp of existing screens and net-new features.
  • Build and maintain a component library and design system with clear specs, states, spacing and tokens that hand off cleanly to React.
  • Create interactive prototypes to validate flows with stakeholders before development starts.
  • Design responsive layouts that hold up from small phone screens to wide desktop displays.
  • Present and defend design decisions, gather feedback, and iterate quickly.
  • Keep the visual language consistent — color, typography, iconography, patterns — and aligned with brand guidelines.

Front-End (secondary — ~40%)

  • Implement your designs in React, working from the shared component library.
  • Build UI with Material UI and/or Tailwind CSS, keeping components reusable and consistent with the design system.
  • Integrate front-end components with REST APIs.
  • Handle responsive behavior, mobile breakpoints, accessibility basics and cross-browser polish.
  • Partner with developers during implementation so what ships matches what was designed — review builds, catch drift, fix the small stuff yourself.

What You'll Need

  • 2–3+ years of professional experience in a UI/UX design role (or a hybrid design/front-end role).
  • Strong Figma skills — wireframes, high-fidelity screens, components, auto layout, prototyping and developer handoff.
  • Hands-on React experience — building and styling components in a real codebase, comfortable with modern JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML and CSS. This is a requirement, not a nice-to-have.
  • Practical experience with Material UI and/or Tailwind CSS.
  • Demonstrated experience designing mobile and responsive interfaces, not just desktop screens scaled down.
  • A portfolio showing both the thinking (flows, structure, iterations) and the finished screens.
  • Experience gathering requirements directly from business users and product owners — you're comfortable in the room, not waiting for a spec to land in your inbox.
  • Solid grounding in user-centered design principles and accessibility.
  • Clear communication — you can explain design decisions to non-designers and take feedback well.

Nice to Have

  • Experience modernizing or redesigning an existing application.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system in code (Storybook, tokens).
  • Familiarity with usability testing and gathering user feedback.
  • Git-based workflow experience.
