Overview
Chilliwack is a rapidly growing and vibrant community of approximately 100,000 residents, located 100 kilometres east of Vancouver in the beautiful Fraser Valley, offering abundant outdoor recreation opportunities. Our municipality takes pride in delivering excellent service to our citizens while protecting our natural resources, and we are seeking a like-minded individual to join our team. The City of Chilliwack is inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the full-time position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training.

Are you the one we’re looking for?
Seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training to support the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater treatment facility. Duties include operating and maintaining treatment equipment, monitoring plant processes, performing routine cleaning and preventative maintenance, collecting samples and conducting basic testing, maintaining records and logs, and assisting with mechanical and electrical repairs as required. This role also supports overall plant and grounds maintenance and performs related duties as assigned.

For you to succeed in this role, you will need to have the following requirements and skills:

  • Must have completed grade 12 education;
  • Able to obtain EOCP Wastewater Treatment Certificate Level I Certificate within 18 months of employment;
  • Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence;
  • Sound knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures used in treatment plant operations;
  • Able to understand the principles of the functions and operation and to apply the techniques of tending and maintaining sewage processing and sludge disposal equipment;
  • Able to work in wet or humid conditions while subject to odours, fumes and gases;
  • Sound knowledge of routine duties and able to perform with minimum supervision;
  • Knowledgeable in the monitoring of electrical and mechanical control panels and gauges;
  • Good knowledge in electrical and mechanical maintenance repair and preventive maintenance programs;
  • Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors and other members of staff;
  • Able to relate to the public and be neat and presentable in appearance.
