Full job description

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Chef to join our Child Care Centre. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in food preparation and cooking techniques, along with a keen understanding of food safety and handling practices. As an Assistant Chef, you will play a vital role in supporting the Chef in creating different menu for children age 10 months to 5 years while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency in the kitchen.

Duties

  • Assist the head chef in daily kitchen operations, including food preparation and cleaning.
  • Deliver meals to individual classrooms
  • Help manage inventory and ensure all ingredients are fresh and properly stored.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, adhering to food safety standards.
  • Pick up groceries
  • Step into the Chef role in their absence
  • Promote a workplace culture of cooperation and respect
  • Occasionally assist with classroom clean-up following meal times

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a cook or kitchen assistant
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
  • Valid Food Safe Level 1 Certificate
  • Clear Criminal Record Check
  • Ability to provide three written letters of reference
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including opening or closing shifts.
