The Organization:

Our team members provide caring services to residents and clients throughout Saskatchewan in our Seniors Independent Living Communities, Intermediate Care Homes, Long-Term Care, Group Homes for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, and programs like the Seniors Day Program and the Luther Seniors Centre.

The Position:

In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, and with funding from Canada Summer Jobs, we are seeking a Summer Activity Worker to join our team at Luther Riverside Terrace. This position is responsible for coordinating and providing activities and entertainment for residents and will work closely with the Resident Association, hosting and facilitating programs such as outings, entertainment, crafts, parties, etc.

Start Date: To be determined in May/June, and will continue into the summer months.

This position is only available to youth who:

  • are between the age of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • are a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • are legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
  • International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

The Applicant: This position will provide day-to-day support to Luther Riverside Terrace that include:

Program Planning & Support

  • Assist in planning, preparing, and organizing daily and weekly recreational activities for residents e.g., crafts, games, gentle exercise, music sessions).
  • Help set up activity spaces, arrange seating, and ensure materials are ready for use.
  • Suggest new, age-friendly program ideas that promote social engagement and well-being.

Resident Engagement

  • Encourage resident participation by inviting individuals and supporting them during activities.
  • Provide gentle guidance or one-on-one assistance to residents who need extra help (mobility, understanding instructions, etc.).
  • Build positive relationships with residents through respectful, friendly interaction.

Activity Facilitation

  • Support team members in running group programs, recreational events, and social gatherings.
  • Lead simple activities under supervision, such as group games, reading sessions, music appreciation, or stretching exercises.
  • Modify activities as needed to suit different ability levels.

Safety & Well-Being

  • Ensure activity spaces are safe, clean, and free of hazards.
  • Monitor residents during programs and report any concerns, behavioural changes, or safety risks to the supervisor.
  • Follow all safety protocols related to residents mobility, health needs, and emergency procedures.

Administrative & Record-Keeping

  • Assist with tracking attendance or participation in activities.
  • Help update bulletin boards, calendars, and program schedules.
  • Support with basic clerical tasks such as printing schedules, preparing materials, or organizing supplies.

Social & Community Support

  • Support special events such as holiday celebrations, birthday gatherings, outdoor walks, or community activities.
  • Help create a warm, inclusive environment where residents feel valued, engaged, and supported.
  • Assist with transporting supplies, pushing wheelchairs (if trained), or guiding residents safely to program spaces.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Work closely with recreation team members and volunteers to coordinate programming.
  • Participate in team meetings or training related to resident support, dementia awareness, and communication skills.
  • Share observations about resident engagement to help improve future programming.

Creative & Therapeutic Activities

  • Help prepare materials for arts and crafts, puzzles, brain-stimulating activities, or sensory programs.
  • Engage residents in conversation, storytelling, music, or cultural activities to promote emotional well-being.

Applicants would typically have a grade 12 education and have a valid class 5 driver's license. Enrollment in a post-secondary program is preferred, Must have sufficient practical experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position as outlined. Applicants must have good interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
