Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association is a leading provider of after-school, summer, and college programs for over 3,000 students in the Surrey, BC area. We are also a provider of transportation and special education services for over 300 students with disabilities in the Surrey, BC area.

Job Description:

Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association is looking for a Service Provider to provide support to our students, parents, and teachers in our schools. You will provide a range of activities to students, including activities to encourage physical activity, play, and learn from day to day. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about providing quality services and values the safety and well-being of our students.

Position Summary:

The Sexual Assault Response Services Provider will work the clients to offer services related to crisis response, safety planning, related information and support, referrals, community outreach and engagement.

The clients of the Program are persons of any age who are survivors of sexual assault, including historical sexual assault regardless of whether they have reported the sexual assault to the police or other authorities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The Sexual Assault Response Services Provider (SARSP) job duties and responsibilities are:

1. Crisis Response. The FRAFCA SARSP will provide Crisis Response to Clients and will make efforts to do so within 72 hours of the Sexual Assault.

This response may include, as appropriate:

a) responding to hospital call-outs;

b) providing emotional support;

c) identifying and addressing the immediate emotional, safety, and logistical needs of the Client;

d) acting as a connector between the Client, emergency personnel, hospital personnel, and other victim support programs.

2. Information & Support:The FRAFCA SARSP will:

a) using a Trauma-Informed, client centered and, as needed, culturally appropriate approach, support the emotional and practical needs of Clients, and as appropriate, members of their family or support network, to assist Clients in addressing the impacts of sexual assault and trauma; and

b) support Clients, as needed, in accessing other resources and assistance in the community to address the immediate and post-incident impacts of sexual assault and trauma, including by:

· providing information and assistance in navigating health and justice sector services (including hospital accompaniment and transportation, as needed);

· providing information regarding next steps or actions to be undertaken by the police if the incident was reported;

· providing information about how to obtain independent legal advice/ information to support a Client in determining the Client’s options;

· access to other services including Red Path;

· providing or assisting with accessing transportation services including, but not limited to hospital, court, police, transition house, and/or shelters;

· providing or facilitating other types of practical support and assistance as appropriate;

· assisting with filling out forms including the Crime Victim Assistance Program application, Victim Impact Statement, and victim notification registration;

· assisting when speaking with and engaging with justice system personnel including police and Crown counsel;

· providing support for and information about the criminal court process; and

· providing other justice system information and support, including going to court with the Client.

· Active participation in related committees, trainings, staff meetings, and possible fundraising events

3. Safety Planning: The FRAFCA SARSP will, as needed, develop a written Safety Plan or checklist with the Clients to manage safety and reduce the risk of further victimization. Clients would be supported through making connections to cultural medicines as well as Traditional teachings.

This work with the Clients may include, as appropriate:

a) upon initial contact with Clients, assessing, identifying, and addressing the Client’s

b) immediate and emergency physical and emotional safety needs;

c) (b) developing and updating safety plans with Clients and coordinating with the

d) community and with criminal justice system partners; and

e) (c) providing to Clients general safety, wellness planning and crime prevention

f) information and referrals to community resources.

4. Third Party Reporting: The FRAFCA SARSP will:

a) provide information to Clients regarding third-party reporting options and support them through the process should they elect to report using this process; and

b) assist Clients in completing third-party reports at the Client’s request.

5. Service Coordination and Referrals. The FRAFCA SARSP will:

a) ensure that the Program is working closely with other victim service programs in the Service Area if those programs exist.

b) provide referral information about Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General supports, as appropriate, including:

· Victim services;

· Victim Safety Unit;

· Crime Victim Assistance Program;

· Stopping the Violence Counselling;

· PEACE Counselling;

· Interagency Case Assessment Team (ICAT); and

· Outreach and Multicultural Outreach Services.

c) make referrals and work closely with local service providers to coordinate the Services for the Client with other resources in the community including, as appropriate, with consideration of any possible conflicts for the client, and as available;

· sexual assault service counselling;

· transition houses;

· victim assistance programs;

· alcohol and drug programs;

· mental health programs;

· child and Youth Advocacy Centre;

· sexual Assault Intervention Program; and

· other resources as appropriate.

6. Community Outreach and Engagement: As appropriate for the needs of the community and for the delivery of the Services, the Service Provider will engage with the community (including First Nations Health Authority, First Nation Bands, Galdue Services of the BC First Nations Justice Counsil, Vancouver Rape Relief, and RCMP) for the purpose of enhancing service delivery to Clients, reaching out to potential Clients, and raising the profile of sexual assault services in the community. This engagement may include:

(a) reaching out and providing information to the community, including other local service providers, about sexual assault and sexual assault services; and,

(b) hosting or participating in Service-related events.

7. Reporting: THE FRAFCA SARSP will complete all monthly, quarterly and yearly statistical, narrative and financial reports in the required format including:

· new Client information;

· incident types (new Clients)

· referral sources (new Clients)

· caseload information (all Clients)

· services provided (all Clients)

· client referrals (all Clients)

· community coordination and engagement

· staffing & training information

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

· Two (2) years recent related experience working with intergenerational Trauma with Indigenous women or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

· Must have a strong working knowledge and analysis of the issues impacting women in the sex trade and domestic violence, including violence against women, mental health, homelessness, and addictions.

· Must have a strong working knowledge of victim services including Victims of Crime Compensation and related court processes.

– Excellent writing and research skills including the ability to write victim’s compensation applications and victim impact statements.

– Understanding of and practices a trauma informed care response when working with women.

– Efficient organizational and administrative skills including record keeping, report writing scheduling, and problem-solving abilities.

– Demonstrated computer and IT aptitude.

– Demonstrated understanding of Cultural Safety, including the Identities and lived history of Indigenous people.

– Skilled in program development as well as working in partnerships with allied service providers.

– Strong conflict resolution skills and practice

– Crises intervention training and experience

– Excellent communication skills required, including the ability to work in a respectful and cooperative manner with co-workers, and FRAFCA members.

– A First Aid certificate is required.

– Candidate must undergo a criminal record check.

– Women with addiction issues need to be at least 2 years clean and sober.

– Hourly position that may require some work outside of normal business hours to complete position responsibilities, to ensure safety of clients.

· Physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing the duties.

· Maintain a clean criminal record check and vulnerable sector search.

· Must adhere to the organization’s health and wellness plan

Key Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

· Knowledge of the diversity of Indigenous cultures, identities, and lived history.

· Appropriate training, knowledge and qualifications required to understand challenges impacting women and accordingly deliver the program services, such as:

a) the particular needs of sexual assault survivors;

b) Trauma-Informed practice;

c) Indigenous cultural safety;

d) best practices in delivering sexual assault services; and

e) participation in community of practice panels;

· Ability to maintain strong and positive stakeholder relations and excellent interpersonal abilities.

· Intent to contribute back to the community and passionate about community care

· Substantial communication skills to function efficiently at the job role

· Is proactive, a problem solver and can quickly gain trust of people living on the streets

· Be organized and pay attention to detail

· Understand the impacts of trauma, poverty and marginalization and keen to contribute to the team for betterment of the situation

· Experience in collaborating with multi-disciplinary, front-line staff.

· Knowledge of Indigenous communities, organizations, and service providers within the Fraser Valley.

· Knowledge of intergenerational impacts of residential school and colonization on the individual and family.
