Salary: 36.23/hour

Schedule: 40 hours weekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

This is manual work of some complexity and variety involving the performance of semi-skilled tasks entailing the exercise of one or more acquired skills. An incumbent trims, prunes and waters a variety of trees using rigging ropes, power saws and other hand tools; plants, stakes, fertilizes, mulches and cares for trees; identifies and treats trees affected by pests and disease, as directed; assists in the operation of a chipping machine; assists in setting out safety cones, warning signs and traffic control barriers under the direction of a supervisor; performs minor servicing and maintenance tasks on equipment operated; may assist in and direct the work of labourers engaged in forestry tasks. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation plus considerable experience in forestry work including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, materials and safety precautions used in forestry work. Knowledge of the functions of the division concerned, established procedures governing the work of the division and the relationship between the various applicable divisions of the civic service. Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions with a minimum of supervision; perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual tasks requiring the use of considerable independent judgement related to safety; lay out and check the work of labourers performing semi-skilled and unskilled tasks. Considerable skill in the use of a variety of hand tools and motorized equipment common to forestry work. Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of heavy manual work outdoors in all weather. A valid Driver’s Licence for the province of British Columbia is required.

This is a temporary full time position until December 11, 2026.
