Job Overview
Destination NWT is a renowned tour operator located in Yellowknife NWT, that provides year round tours to guests from around the world. Snowmobiling, Ice Fishing, Hiking, Kayaking, Canoeing, Cultural Tours and Aurora Tours are just some of the incursions guest get to enjoy. We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Tour Guide to lead visitors through our attractions, providing memorable and informative experiences. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a passion for sharing knowledge, and the ability to connect with diverse audiences. This role offers an opportunity to showcase leadership qualities while educating and entertaining guests from around the world.

Duties

  • Lead guided tours, ensuring all guests receive a comprehensive understanding of the site’s history, significance, and features
  • Engage visitors with compelling storytelling and public speaking skills to enhance their experience
  • Answer questions and provide additional information tailored to different audiences
  • Manage tour schedules efficiently, ensuring timely departures and arrivals
  • Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor at all times, fostering a welcoming environment
  • Assist with crowd control and ensure safety protocols are followed during tours
  • Collaborate with team members to improve tour content and delivery methods
  • Use multilingual or bilingual skills to accommodate international visitors when applicable
  • Educate guests on cultural or historical aspects relevant to the site, employing teaching techniques as needed

Experience

  • Previous experience in public speaking, customer service, or guiding roles is preferred
  • Multilingual or bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse visitor groups
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey information and engage audiences of all ages
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to manage groups effectively
  • Excellent time management skills to keep tours on schedule
  • Experience in teaching or educational settings is a plus
  • A passion for sharing knowledge and creating memorable visitor experiences

This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy interacting with people, sharing stories, and showcasing their leadership abilities in a dynamic environment.

No formal education or work experience is required. There will be on the job training provided to all staff.

Successful candidate must speak fluent English or French. Speaking the following additional languages is a strong asset:
