Salary range (but not limited to):

94,200 - 115,200

Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance):

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.


About the role

Weekly hours may fluctuate depending on business needs.

We are looking for Paralegals who can independently manage Small Claims Court actions and Accident Benefits matters to join our growing team!

Intact Insurance Company has a team of over 285 litigators in 12 locations across Canada, including 5 Ontario cities. Intact is now seeking a dynamic paralegal with AB and SCC experience to join our team!

What you’ll do here:

  • Independent carriage of file handling matters before the License Appeal Tribunal and Small Claims Court from beginning to conclusion.

  • Draft opinions, pleadings, affidavits, and other legal documents to support applications, mediations, settlement conferences, case conferences, private arbitrations, trials and LAT hearings (both oral and written).

  • Independently prepare and conduct examinations under oath, LAT hearings of appropriate complexity, and Small Claims Court trials.

  • Provide support to Legal Counsel by second chairing, providing research, and other appropriate file related tasks in complex Accident Benefit files.

  • Negotiate settlements with opposing parties.

  • Report on and assess claims with a focus on controlling indemnity but, at the same time, be strategic and pragmatic with a view to proactive and efficient resolution.

What you bring to the table:

  • Strong organization, communication and negotiation skills that will help you manage a busy practice, including working effectively with legal support staff including legal assistants, law clerks, and administrative support employees.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a natural ability to work collaboratively with others and to build effective client relationships that will make you a great team player and contribute to the positive work environment.

  • An ability to think outside the box, find novel solutions and be a pragmatic problem solver.

The ideal candidate is/has:

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario with a P1 License.

  • Minimum of 2+ years of insurance litigation experience.

  • Experience in legal research and writing, including authorship of legal opinions.

  • Experience in drafting pleadings, affidavits, and written submissions, and preparing summaries of medical and financial documents.

  • Proficiency in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.

  • LAT hearing and/or trial experience is a definite asset.

  • Proficiency in technologies, tools, and software programs to optimize operational efficiency and decision making, including but not limited to AI tools, iManage, ACL and the Microsoft Office package of programs.
