Full job description
Help keep North America's EV chargers running — and learn a fast-growing industry from the inside.
Electric Avenue Manufacturing was founded to speed up electric vehicle adoption in North America by making smart charging convenient, affordable, and easy to use. We design and build Level 2 (240V) and DC fast charging (480V) hardware, backed by our own enterprise software that gives businesses full control of their charging network — station health, billing, user access, and dynamic load management. We're based in Halifax and we support customers across the continent.
We're hiring a Technical Support Specialist to join our Halifax support team. This is an entry-level role built for someone early in their career who is technically curious and genuinely good with people. You do not need EV charging experience — almost nobody has it. We will teach you the hardware, the software, and the industry. What you bring is the ability to think through a problem logically, communicate clearly under pressure, and own a customer's issue until it's actually solved.
What you'll do
You are the person a site owner calls when a charger goes down. On any given day you'll:
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software faults on our Level 2 and DC fast chargers, working through our OCPP central management system — reading station logs, checking connectivity, walking a customer through a reset, identifying whether it's a station, network, or electrical issue
- Build and commission new charging sites in the OCPP platform so they work correctly the first time a driver plugs in
- Onboard new customers and their hardware onto the Electric Avenue platform
- Train customers — from a single-charger small business to a fleet operator — so they can run their own network confidently
- Own your tickets in Zendesk against real service targets: 2-hour first response, 12-hour first resolution, 24-hour full resolution
- Document what you learn and escalate cleanly to engineering when an issue is genuinely beyond Tier 1 — with the logs, station ID, firmware version, and reproduction steps already gathered
- Keep learning the technology, the standards, and where EV charging is heading
What success looks like
We hire against a clear scorecard, so you'll always know how you're doing. In your first year, a strong Technical Support Specialist:
- By month 1 — trained on the product line and management system, independently handling straightforward tickets end to end
- By month 3 — hitting our first-response and resolution targets on 90%+ of your tickets, and building new sites with minimal review
- By month 6 — resolving 70%+ of front-line issues without escalating to engineering, and onboarding customers on your own
- By month 12 — maintaining a 4.5/5+ customer satisfaction rating, contributing to our internal knowledge base, and recognized as the go-to person for at least one product area
What we're looking for
Required
- 0–2 years of experience in a customer-facing role where you had to solve technical problems — IT help desk, retail tech support, field service, trades, call centre, lab, or similar. Co-op, internship, and part-time experience all count.
- Post-secondary education in electrical or electronics engineering technology, computer science, IT, or a related technical field — or equivalent hands-on technical experience, including a trade background
- Genuine comfort with technical troubleshooting: you can look at a problem you've never seen before and work it methodically rather than guessing
- Clear, calm written and verbal English communication — most of your day is explaining technical things to non-technical people
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through — you close the loop and nothing falls through the cracks
- Legally able to work in Canada, and able to work in our Halifax office Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Nice to have (not required — we'll train you)
- Exposure to a ticketing platform such as Zendesk, Freshdesk, ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, or AWS Connect
- Basic electrical knowledge: AC/DC fundamentals, breakers, grounding, GFCI
- Basic networking: Wi-Fi, cellular, Ethernet, reading a connectivity log
- Any familiarity with EV charging, OCPP, renewable energy, or connected/IoT hardware
- Additional languages
Hours
In person at our Halifax office, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a one-hour unpaid lunch — 40 hours a week. No evening shifts, no weekend rotation, no on-call. When you go home, you're home.
What we offer
- $48,000 – $58,000 per year, based on experience, paid bi-weekly, with a formal review at 6 months
- Full group benefits from day one — dental, extended health, vision, life, and disability insurance, plus a health care spending account. No waiting period; coverage starts on your start date.
- RRSP matching — 6% combined: we contribute 3% matched against your 3%, eligible from your start date
- Paid vacation — two weeks (10 days) per calendar year, plus paid statutory holidays, sick leave, and family-responsibility leave
- $50/month cellphone stipend
- Full equipment provided — laptop, mouse, headset, and external monitor
- Structured onboarding and paid training on our hardware, software, and the EV charging industry — you will not be thrown in the deep end
- A clear growth path: our support specialists move into senior support, field service, technical account management, and product roles
- A genuinely interesting problem space in a growing industry, with a Halifax-based team small enough that your work is visible
How to apply
Apply directly through Indeed with your resume. There are a few short screening questions — please answer them, as we read every one. No cover letter required, though we'll happily read one if you want to tell us why this role interests you.
Electric Avenue Manufacturing is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates and are committed to a workplace free from discrimination. If you need an accommodation at any point in the hiring process, let us know and we'll make it work.
