Reporting to the Dean, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Business and IT.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications:

In addition to meeting the Required Skills, Required Qualifications, and Required Education, the successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level.

Required Skills:

• A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
• Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff, and students
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Learning Management System, Canvas
• Demonstrated ability to deliver classes remotely (if required), using online modalities such as Google Meet
• Ability to manage large classes and diverse populations
• Experience coordinating and supervising Teaching Assistants as applicable
• Excellent organizational skills are needed to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments and exams and the ability respond to student enquiries in a timely manner

Education:

• Candidates must have a PhD or a PhD (ABD) that focuses on sustainability and business management. Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to, business management; finance; accounting; sustainability studies; law; international development; economics; ecology; and/or environmental studies. Candidates should clearly articulate the connection between their research and business and sustainability in their cover letter
• The Faculty will consider candidates with a Master’s degree in a field relevant to business and sustainability, provided that the Candidate can demonstrate industry experience in sustainability-related elements of business and/or research expertise in matters related to business and sustainability. Research expertise can be demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or publications in trade journals. Where Candidates have industry experience, they should outline that experience in their cover letters

Experience:

• Industry experience and/or publications in areas related to business strategy and sustainability; the Triple Bottom Line; sustainability reporting; green financing; regenerative economics; sustainable operations; sustainability in supply chains; and/or sustainability marketing are considered assets. Candidates should draw attention to such matters in their cover letters
• Experience with climate policy simulators (e.g., En-Roads Climate Policy Simulator) and/or similar sustainability-related simulators is an asset
• Experiencing teaching sustainability-related courses in a post-secondary business program is an asset
• Experience teaching business from a humanities or social sciences perspective is an asset
• Preference will be given to those candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence experiences in a commerce program in a post-secondary environment

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
