Full job description

Hours: 15 hours per weekend, with 3 weekends worked per calendar month. Rotating shifts of days (7:00am-3:00pm and 8:00am-4:00pm), afternoons (3:00pm-11:00pm and 4:00pm-12:00am) and nights (11:00pm-7:00am and 12:00am-8:00am). Opportunity to pick up additional hours across Family Centre programs as they become available. Some flexibility in work hours may be required.

Rate of Pay: $24.89

This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd – Family Centre

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Provide support to service users including but not limited to assessment, intake, housing-based case management, crisis prevention and intervention, supportive counselling, education, advocacy, accompaniment to viewings and appointments, facilitating long term housing success, and linkages with other community services
  • Residential tasks such as house laundry, cleaning common spaces, unit turnovers, unit inventory, unit inspections, and other tasks required for the safe and efficient operation of the program
  • Maintain the safety and security of the shelter by completing hourly facility checks, answering phones and doors, and weekly unit inspections
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to the unique barriers faced by service users
  • Respect and protect the confidentiality of service user information and other information that is sensitive in nature to the operation of the program
  • Observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Post-secondary education in Social Services or a related field is required
  • Experience working in a residential setting is preferred
  • Minimum 1-year related experience in community outreach or emergency shelter, and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Social Services or a related field
  • Have knowledge of and have experience working with a range of issues impacting families including homelessness, violence against women and children, immigration, poverty, mental illness and substance use
  • Commitment to and experience working within a person-centered, trauma-informed, harm reduction and housing first framework
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication, time management and organization, and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience with HIFIS & EMHware is an asset
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
  • A valid G license is preferred
  • Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
