Full job description

This is an unpaid volunteer position.

Douglas Park Community Centre is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable volunteer to support our Preschool Summer Adventures Camp program. This is a wonderful opportunity for students interested in early childhood education, teaching, recreation, child development, or community programming to gain hands-on experience working with young children.

The camp is staffed by two experienced educators and serves children ages 2.5 to 5 years. Volunteers will assist with daily activities, outdoor play, arts and crafts, and helping to create a safe, positive, and engaging environment for campers.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Assist staff with daily camp activities and transitions
  • Support children during indoor and outdoor play
  • Help prepare and tidy activity areas and materials
  • Engage positively with children and model appropriate behaviour
  • Assist with arts, crafts, activities
  • Support staff in maintaining a safe and inclusive environment

Ideal Candidates:

  • Enjoy working with young children
  • Are responsible, patient, and enthusiastic
  • Have an interest in education, recreation, or child development
  • Can work collaboratively with staff and families
  • Are able to commit to at least 3 weeks of camp, ideally all 6

Camp Dates:

  • Week 1: June 29 – July 3 (No camp July 1)
  • Week 2: July 6 – July 10
  • Week 3: July 13 – July 17
  • Week 4: July 20 – July 24
  • Week 5: July 28 – August 1
  • Week 6: August 3 – August 7 (No camp August 3)

Hours:

8:30 AM -12:30 PM

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Enjoy working with young children in a group setting
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to follow staff direction
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to commit to at least 3 weeks of camp, ideally all 6
  • Provide two character references
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search is required for all volunteers

Pay: $0.01 per hour

Work Location: In person
