In-Home French STEM Tutor-Mentor - Grades 7-12 - Ottawa (Nepean/Barrhaven)

We are currently hiring multiple experienced in-home Tutor-Mentors in Ottawa, with a particular need in Nepean and Barrhaven, to support students in Grades 7-12 with Math and Science in French.

We are looking for strong French-speaking tutors who are confident teaching intermediate and secondary-level STEM subjects, including Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

The Tutor-Mentor Position

At TutorBright, our tutors are also mentors, which is why we call this position Tutor-Mentor. Tutor-Mentors help students strengthen their academic skills while also building confidence, independence, resilience, and a more positive relationship with learning.

Our Tutor-Mentors create engaging and supportive sessions that are adapted to each student's individual strengths, needs, and learning style.

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong French language skills and the ability to tutor academic subjects in French
  • Strong knowledge of intermediate and secondary-level Math and Science
  • Confidence supporting students in Grades 7-12
  • Experience tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coaching, or working with youth
  • The ability to explain challenging STEM concepts clearly and adapt explanations to different learners
  • A patient, encouraging, and reliable approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable transportation to students' homes in Nepean, Barrhaven, and surrounding Ottawa communities
  • Current or completed university or college education

Preferred Educational or Professional Background

It would be especially helpful if you are studying or have completed education in one of the following areas:

  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Life Sciences
  • Health Sciences
  • Education or teachers' college
  • French or French-language education
  • A related STEM field

Tutoring Requirements

Tutor-Mentors should be comfortable supporting students in French in several of the following areas:

  • Grades 7-10 Math
  • Grades 7-10 Science
  • Grades 11-12 Math
  • Grades 11-12 Physics
  • Grades 11-12 Chemistry
  • Grades 11-12 Biology

Applicants must be comfortable teaching academic material in French. The ability to support multiple upper-level STEM subjects is a strong asset.
