Elves Special Needs Society is a non-profit organization and Private School accredited by Alberta Education, as a Designated Special Education Program (DSEP). We specialize in supporting children, youth, and adults with speech and language delays, or severe cognitive, physical, or social impairments.
We are currently seeking a part-time, neurodiversity affirming Speech Language Pathology Assistant to join our multidisciplinary team including speech language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, nurses, and social workers. The ideal candidate utilizes child-led therapy and promotes communication and regulation across environments and works well within a team.
The job is located at the Elves Child Development Center, which supports students aged 2 – 6. The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant supports in providing high-quality service to a diverse group of learners, prioritizing neurodiversity affirming care and trauma-informed care.
Under the supervision of the Speech Language Pathologist, the Speech Language Pathology Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
- Provide individual and small-group or classroom-based speech and language therapy activities
- Implement therapy programs and treatment strategies that promote functional communication skills across environments
- Support students in developing communication, speech, language, social communication, and/or AAC skills
- Communicate observations and progress with the supervising SLP and other members of the multidisciplinary team including teachers and educational assistants
- Assisting with screenings, assessments, and other clinical activities as directed
- Maintain accurate and confidential therapy records, and complete required documentation
- Prepare and create visuals and resources
- Attend team meetings and professional development opportunities as required
- Yearly inventory, ongoing maintenance, and cleaning of SLP equipment
- Help integrate communication goals into classroom routines, play and everyday activities
- Maintain a safe, positive, inclusive and supportive therapy environment
Education and Experience
- SLPA Diploma, Communication Disorders Diploma
- Experience working as part of a collaborative rehabilitation team is an asset
- Experience working with neurodivergent children with complex needs is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills are required
Pay: $23.00-$27.00 per hour
