Special Educator – Join the Centre of Dreams and Hopes Team!

Location: Centre of Dreams and Hopes (9825 rue Verville, Ahunstic)
Position: Special Educator (Part-Time)

Schedule: Tues/Wed/Thursday - 8:30am-3:30pm- On Thursdays we finish at 5:30pm (prep-time/meetings each week)

Star date:August 31st 2026- August 14th 2027 (Possibility to extend contract and hours in Sept 2027)

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of neurodivergent adults? The Centre of Dreams and Hopes is looking for a compassionate, creative, and dedicated Special Educator to join our incredible team!

We are an alternative adult education program that supports neurodivergent individuals aged 21 and older in developing life skills, building independence, exploring their interests, and reaching their personal goals. Our approach is neurodivergent-affirming and person-centered, engaging, and focused on creating a welcoming environment where every individual is respected, encouraged, and empowered.

Our classrooms have a maximum of eight participants, and you will work alongside another Special Educator, allowing for a highly collaborative and supportive environment where participants receive individualized attention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate engaging educational, recreational, and life skills activities.
  • Support participants in achieving their individualized goals.
  • Foster independence, confidence, and meaningful social connections.
  • Build positive relationships while maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
  • Work collaboratively with another educator to provide individualized support to a class of up to eight participants.
  • Use proactive, respectful behaviour support strategies and safely respond to behaviours of concern when they arise.
  • Assist participants with feeding during meals and snacks, if/when required.
  • Provide assistance with personal care, including bathroom hygiene, in a respectful and dignified manner, if/when needed.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional support.
  • Communicate effectively with families, caregivers, and team members as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow program policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Special Education, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting neurodivergent individuals is required
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Patient, compassionate, flexible, and reliable.
  • Ability to remain calm and confident in a variety of situations.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is an asset
  • Fluid in English and must have a minimum of basic French and above
