Intermediate Structural Engineer

Location: Okanagan Valley or Kootenays, BC

Salary: $80,000 – $120,000 / year (commensurate with experience)

Bolen Engineering is expanding again.

While larger firms spend time in endless internal meetings, we are actively designing the structural engineering solutions that shape the Southern Interior. Our project pipeline continues to grow, and we are looking for an Intermediate Structural Engineer ready to take direct ownership of complex, high-profile design work.

  • Location Priority: Candidates based in (or looking to relocate to) either the Okanagan Valley (Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton) or the Kootenays (Cranbrook, Invermere, Fernie, Nelson).

  • Direct Impact: Work on custom residential mountain homes, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities with direct client access and zero corporate bureaucracy.

Technical Scope

  • Analysis & Software: Proficiency with Sframe, RISA, or similar structural analysis software.
  • Materials Expertise: Comprehensive design work across custom heavy timber, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry.
  • Codes & Standards: Daily application of BCBC Part 4 & Part 9, CSA A23.3, CSA S16, and CSA O86.
  • Execution: Ability to manage projects from initial framing concepts down to site reviews and final field reviews.

Who You Are

  • Professional Credentials: Registered as a P.Eng with EGBC (or a senior EIT close to registration).
  • Experience: Demonstrated track record in structural building design with a strong grip on constructability.
  • Mindset: Adaptable, highly communicative, and focused on practical, elegant engineering solutions.

What We Offer

  • Compensation: $90,000 – $120,000 base salary, depending on experience.
