We are currently seeking a Software Developer to work out of our office in Guelph, Ontario.

Our fluid conveyance offering ranges from end user hose replacements right through to full hydraulic conveyance kitting for some of North America’s largest OEMs. We also offer full hydraulic system servicing, both on site and in our shop. Our engineering department can help with the smallest of requests right up to designing and building large power units. Our drive to sell and service the best brands in the world has established our relationship with Hetronic Radio Remotes, by being Hetronic Canada, our clients can now lean on the UMI Group for support in radio remotes and electrical controls.

The UMI Group runs on software we build ourselves. Our internal applications, integrations, and reporting tools are used every day across engineering, operations, and sales – and software is one of the pillars of our business strategy.

Our internal software has grown up alongside the business — built quickly, close to the problems it was solving, and now woven into how the company operates every day. This role is dedicated to improving and modernizing the software department. The Software Developer will work directly with the Business Systems Manager to develop, prioritize, and implement these improvements: taking the existing code base/processes and strengthening the foundations, building what comes next, and setting the standards we’ll work to going forward.

Responsibilities

• Stabilize and improve our existing software portfolio

o Take ownership of our internal C# desktop (WinForms and WPF) and Python applications and set priorities based on what matters most to the business

o Refactor incrementally, introduce testing, and raise the reliability of the systems people depend on daily

o Improve internal documentation and ensure key knowledge is available to those who need it

• Build new internal applications and integrations

o Design, build, and deploy new applications in C#/.NET and Python

o Build and maintain integrations with external business systems using REST APIs

o Work directly with internal software users to establish tools that streamline business processes

• Own the software development process and set standards

o Improve existing development standards and workflows and identify/fill process gaps

o Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps

o Manage application environments in Azure and deploy desktop applications via Intune

o Manage application secrets, service accounts, and access control – coordinating with our managed IT services provider who maintains our Azure infrastructure

o Provide technical review of the work of our junior software development employee

o Ensure ongoing development work adheres to those standards

• Work in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes.
• Ensure all work performed is in full compliance with ISO 9001 requirements, SOPs and in accordance with established safety standards.
• Ensure personal adherence with all compliance programs including business ethics, health & safety policies, and HR policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Proven experience in application development across multiple programming frameworks, and documentation standards.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of software development experience
• Strong C#/.NET development skills (including experience with WinForms and/or WPF)
• Python experience, ideally with Django
• Strong SQL Server skills
• Proficiency with Git and code review workflows
• Experience building and running CI/CD pipelines (Azure experience preferred)
• Previous success in improving an inherited codebase incrementally
• Ability to work with non-technical colleagues to translate business problems into working software solutions
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work on multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well on a cross functional team.
• Ability to develop rapport and maintain strong working relationships.

Preferred Experience

• Application packaging and deployment through Intune
• Experience using ORMs to manage databases (preferably Entity Framework)
• Experience integrating with external software (e.g. ERP systems)
• Experience mentoring and reviewing code from junior developers/co-op students

Pay: $75,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
