The Opportunity:
We are recruiting for an Education and Training Coordinator
- This is a contract full-time opportunity to fill an existing vacancy until June 30, 2027 (35 hours per week - Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) based at 737 Woolwich St. Guelph.
Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Community Engagement, this position will deliver comprehensive, evidence based education programs and services to promote mental health awareness, understanding, and wellbeing to community members, services partners, and corporations. This position develops, coordinates and promotes a wide variety of educational opportunities related to mental health and wellness; monitors current trends and best practices; facilitates and coordinates with others to provide presentations, workshops, and seminars; attends community and fundraising events; develops and maintains partnerships with community groups, service partners, provincial and national branches, families, corporations, and individuals; serves as a resource to the organization and the community related to mental health education for all citizens.
Responsibilities:
COORDINATES COMMUNITY EDUCATION
- Ensures the development and delivery of educational opportunities related to mental health issues, stigma reduction and recovery
- Evaluates the effectiveness of educational activities
- Provides leadership in developing and implementing a comprehensive plan for the annual CMHA WW Mental Health Week
- Develops and participates in activities that increase knowledge about mental health, develops skills and improves awareness of community resources
- Facilitates and/or coordinates with others, to provide presentations, workshops, and seminars in the community
DEVELOPS AND MAINTAINS COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
- Partners with community organizations, schools and school boards, service providers, self-help groups, families and individuals to acknowledge and strengthen their capacity to provide recovery-based services and supports for people with mental health issues and their families.
- Improves understanding of the need for all people to fully participate in and contribute to their community.
- Recognizes and initiates new opportunities to partner with both formal and informal community supports and services
- Creates linkages among community, families and consumer groups in the delivery of education and providing information
PROVIDES PUBLIC INFORMATION
- Develops and disseminates resource materials for educational purposes
- Consults and collaborates to obtain new, relevant resources for the agency
- Seeks out opportunities to enhance educational resources in the community
- Responds to community requests for information and displays
- Develops relationships with local media to promote educational activities and events.
- Participates in planning, organizing article submissions, writing articles, editing and distribution.
PROVIDES LEADERSHIP TO DEVELOPING, PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING ACTIVIES RELATED TO THE ISSUE OF SUICIDE
- Maintains membership with relevant local and provincial organizations
- Provides leadership and resources to support local community initiatives
- Facilitates workshops related to suicide as required
- Initiates opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of the issues related to suicide.
PROMOTES ACCESS TO RESOURCES
- Provides resources and linkages in the community related to youth mental health issues, and or family support needs
- Initiates and provides education services in response to requests for presentations
- Provides resources and support to the high schools, as requested
COORDINATES PROGRAM ACTIVITIES, DEVELOPMENT AND RECORD KEEPING
- Liaises with local, regional, provincial and other groups related to educational issues.
- Represents the agency related to community education issues
- Responds to requirements of the program funders
- Assists in the development of proposals or funding agreements related to sustaining or developing new initiatives for community education
- Adheres to, and develops budgets for approval, related to educational events and activities
- Initiates and actively participates in program review and development
- Provides program and administrative reports, as required
Qualifications:
- University degree or college diploma in a social science or health-related discipline
- Certified trainer to deliver Mental Health First Aid, ASIST and/or safeTALK training is considered an asset
- Knowledge of the mental health system gained through lived or work experience
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of CMHA WW services
- Knowledge of resources available in Guelph, Wellington County and Region of Waterloo.
- Able to handle multiple responsibilities with competing priorities in a fast-paced progressive environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with learning participants, service partners, corporate clients, and donors to facilitated continued engagement with CMHA Waterloo Wellington
- Ability to research, develop, and deliver engaging courses, presentations, and workshops based on best practices and evidence-based practice
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and listening skills, and the ability to clearly present information in oral presentations for educational purposes
- Must be well organized, self-directed, set priorities and manage time effectively
- Proficiency with MS Office, Outlook, Zoom and Canva. Experience with Learning Management Software is considered an asset
- Strong alignment with the CMHA WW’s Mission, Vision and Values
- A valid driver’s license and personal transportation as travel is required
