CBVRCE 2026 CONF-005- TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR - 1 Position

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

Position: Transportation Supervisor

The Transportation Supervisor provides daily leadership for safe, efficient and student-centred transporation services. The position supervises staff, coordinates service delivery, supports routing and specialized transportation, monitors compliance, responds to operational issues, and works with schools, families, staff and external partners to improve service.

• Salary Range: $74,931 to $93,665, based on qualifications and experience, pursuant to the Nova Scotia Education Entites Non-Union Compensation Framework, Pay Band 8
• Position Status: Full-time Non-Union position

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent
• A minimum of three (3) years of related supervisory or leadership experience involving a large workforce or unionized environment
• Experience in transportation operations, dispatch, routing, fleet operations, logistics or comparable service delivery
• Demonstrated knowledge of legislation, regulations and safety requirements governing student transportation, including provincial Motor Carrier requirements
• Experience using transportation routing or operatons systems such as BusPlanner, GPS, digital mapping, fleet or dispatch applications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and the ability to prepare accurate records, analysis, reports and communications.
• Strong organizational, analytical, decision-making, conflict-resolution and communication skills
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, maintain confidentiality and provide respectful, inclusive service.
• Valid Nova Scotia driver's license

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise assigned transportation staff of bus drivers and bus assistant supervisors, including work assignments, coaching, attendance management, performance appraisals and documentation.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training and consistent application of collective agreements, policies and procedures
• Coordinate daily staffing, dispatch, route coverage, extracurricular trips, special trips and related records.
• Monitor daily operations and respond to absences, late buses, breakdowns, weather impacts, road closures, route disruptions and emergencies
• Review and improve routes, schedules, stops and turnarounds for safety, efficiency, capacity, travel time and service effectiveness
• Maintain accurate route, stop, student, vehicle and operating records, and prepare notices, maps, analysis and reports. Audit routes on a no-notice basis
• Use transporations systems, including BusPlanner, GPS, radio, CCTV and related applications, to support operations, reporting and service improvements
• Ensure compliance with CBVRCE policies, applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, driver standards, training requirements and safety practices
• Document and support follow-up for collisions, incidents, occupational injuries, safety concerns and emergency service changes.
• Work with programs and Student Services, schools and families to support specialized transportation, accommodations and student conduct matters.
• Communicate with staff, schools, families, students, regulators, emergency services, contractors and community partners, including written responses and service notices.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff and monitor assigned third-party services to support safe, serviceable vehicles and compliant service delivery
• Perform the responsibilities delegated by the Coordinator of Transporation during absences or as operational needs require, and complete other related duties with the scope of the position.
• Other duties as assigned
