Scope
We are seeking enthusiastic, energetic individuals to help the City of Surrey deliver engaging and inclusive adapted programs for children and youth with disabilities. As a Community Service Assistant 2 - Social Program Support Staff, you will play a key role in supporting participants with disabilities and helping create positive, meaningful experiences through adapted social and recreational programs.
This auxiliary position offers scheduled shifts on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at various City of Surrey locations. This is an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact while helping create meaningful and inclusive experiences for children and youth in our community.
Responsibilities
- Provides one-to-one and/or shared support to participants and adapts activities as needed to promote inclusion and engagement.
- Supports participant safety, well-being, and success by fostering a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment.
- Modifies activities and provide individualized or small-group support to reinforce skills and learning introduced by program leaders.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while collaborating with staff, participants, and caregivers.
- Encourages participant independence, social interaction, and active participation in program activities.
- Assists with program set-up, clean-up, and other duties as required to support program operations.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 10, supplemented by six months of experience in community service work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR certification.
- High Five Certification or an acceptable equivalent.
- Experience working with children with disabilities (ages 3-12) in a recreational, childcare, or educational setting is considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Education Assistant diploma, Special Needs Early Childhood Education certification, or related education is considered an asset.
Other Information
Pay Grade: Schedule D
Hourly Rate: $25.54
Conditions of Employment
This position requires completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
