Front of House Server

Scottish Restaurant | Sarnia, Ontario

We’re looking for an experienced Front of House Server to join our team at a unique Scottish restaurant in Sarnia.

We’re not looking for someone who simply wants to carry plates from the kitchen to the table. We’re looking for someone who understands that great hospitality is about making people feel welcome, knowing your menu, paying attention to the details, and creating an experience guests want to come back for.

The Role

As a server, you’ll be an important part of the personality of the restaurant. You’ll welcome guests, guide them through our Scottish-inspired menu, make recommendations, take orders accurately, and ensure every table receives attentive and friendly service.

Our food may be unusual to some guests, so being able to explain dishes, tell a story about the food, and make recommendations with confidence is an important part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide warm, professional and attentive table service
  • Make cocktails and pull proper British draught pints
  • Welcome guests and create a relaxed, friendly atmosphere
  • Have a strong knowledge of our food and beverage menus
  • Confidently explain Scottish dishes and ingredients to guests
  • Take accurate food and drink orders
  • Make thoughtful recommendations and suggest pairings
  • Monitor tables throughout the meal and anticipate guests’ needs
  • Communicate effectively with the kitchen and other members of the team
  • Handle payments and cash accurately
  • Maintain a clean, organized and welcoming dining room
  • Follow all food safety, liquor service and restaurant procedures
  • Work efficiently during busy services while maintaining a high standard of hospitality
  • Contribute positively to a small, close-knit team

What We’re Looking For

Previous serving experience is mandatory. We need someone who understands the pace and demands of a busy restaurant and can confidently manage their own section.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Experienced and comfortable working independently
  • Naturally friendly, personable and confident with guests
  • Knowledgeable about food and genuinely interested in hospitality
  • Comfortable learning and talking about unfamiliar Scottish dishes
  • Able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure
  • Reliable, punctual and professional
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Attentive to detail and proud of their work
  • Comfortable working evenings, weekends and holidays as required

An interest in Scottish food and culture is a definite bonus, but enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are just as important.
