Full job description

The Hope House Resident Manager is an opportunity for a compassionate, mature, and faith-driven individual to walk alongside women who are working toward freedom from addiction and other life-controlling challenges. Hope House is a Christian, faith-based residential recovery program, located in a peaceful hobby-farm setting where residents build healthy routines through recovery education, supportive relationships, shared responsibilities, caring for animals, gardening, creative work, and community living.

While professional experience in addiction recovery or related support work is valued, we also welcome applicants with relevant lived experience who can bring wisdom, empathy, healthy boundaries, and a strong understanding of the recovery journey to this role. Because Christian faith is a central component of the recovery program at Hope House, applicants must be comfortable actively working within our Christian mission and in agreement with Souls Harbour’s doctrinal statement.

Job Title: Hope House Resident Manager

Scope of Position: The Hope House Women’s Recovery Program is a residential, hobby farm-based recovery program for women, including single mothers, who are seeking freedom from addiction and life-controlling problems. The program operates as part of Souls Harbour Rescue Mission and contributes to the organization’s broader vision to see accessible, transformative recovery programs established across the Maritimes. The program offers a calm, rural environment where women can step away from chaos, rebuild healthy rhythms, and pursue recovery through structure, responsibility, and supportive relationships.

The program incorporates hands-on daily routines such as caring for animals, gardening, shared household responsibilities, and creative work projects. Residents participate in practical activities through the on-site chandlery (including soap and candle-making), meal preparation, cleaning, and maintenance of the farm property as part of a recovery-focussed approach that emphasizes responsibility, consistency, contribution, and community living.

Organizational Relationships & Supervision:

Location of Position: 12 Watson Rd, Point Edward, NS B2A 4P9

Reports to: Regional Coordinator of Cape Breton

Authority: Responsibility for recovery-focussed education delivery, resident support, and resident documentation

Non-Negotiable Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work according to the Souls Harbour Rescue Mission statement:

Souls Harbour Rescue Mission exists to rescue people from poverty, addiction, and despair by offering emergency help, such as food, clothing, and shelter, life changing recovery programs, and the Gospel Message.

  • Must be willing to agree with the Souls Harbour doctrinal statement (as per staff manual)
  • Must be bondable - criminal record check required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience working with women in addiction recovery or related support environments
  • Experience facilitating group education and individual support sessions
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively within defined authority and reporting structures
  • Respect for faith-based recovery environments
  • Experience in residential or farm-based programs is an asset

Expected Results:

Objectives: To ensure the consistent, high-quality delivery of recovery-focussed education and resident support within the Hope House Women’s Recovery Program, providing structure, accountability, and continuity for residents in a shared residential environment.

Specific Duties:

  • Deliver all scheduled recovery-focussed classes in accordance with Souls Harbour Life & Social Skills curriculum
  • Facilitate weekly group recovery meetings for women in recovery.
  • Provide one individual one-on-one session per resident per week and complete brief session documentation
  • Support residents through recovery-focussed conversations that reinforce program expectations, personal responsibility, and healthy decision-making
  • Play a lead role in the resident intake process, including interviews, orientation, and intake documentation.
  • Support resident progression through program phases by reinforcing structure, routine, and accountability
  • Support resident participation in daily program rhythms, including chores, shared responsibilities, and community living expectations
  • Maintain up-to-date resident files and progress notes, including attendance, participation, session notes, and phase progression
  • Attend weekly team meetings led by the Regional Coordinator to support communication and coordination within the broader Hope House team
  • Carry out other duties as assigned that support and benefit the mission and recovery work of Souls Harbour Rescue Mission.

As Hope House continues through a season of transition and growth, we recognize that not all aspects of the Women’s Recovery Program are fully established. We ask for a spirit of flexibility, patience, and openness as the program continues to take shape and mature within the broader vision of Souls Harbour. As such, this job description may be reviewed and adjusted as the program evolves.
