At the DoubleTree by Hilton West Edmonton & The Mayfield Dinner Theatre we know that great hospitality starts in the kitchen. Our Cook 1 plays a vital role in delivering memorable dining experiences by preparing high-quality meals that reflect both skill and care. If you are passionate about cooking, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and take pride in your craft, this could be the opportunity for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and garnish all menu items — including salads, sandwiches, plated dishes, and specialty orders — following established recipes and standards.
  • Set up workstations for forecasted covers, reservations, and special functions.
  • Support special events by preparing live stations such as carving, pasta, or omelet bars.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of coolers, storage areas, and workstations.
  • Follow recipes, portion standards, and instructions provided by sous chefs.
  • Operate and care for kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, and utensils, reporting deficiencies promptly.
  • Prepare food in a timely manner with necessary approvals according to hotel policies.
  • Adhere to safe food handling practices, Ecosure standards, and WHMIS guidelines.
  • Cooperate with teammates to ensure smooth kitchen operations and support overall service excellence.
  • Report unusual matters, problems, or guest feedback to supervisors.
  • Consistently demonstrate professionalism and teamwork in line with hotel policies.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by leadership.

What You Bring

  • Cook Journeyman certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of culinary experience in a professional kitchen.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivated, creative, and able to perform under pressure.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and reliability.
  • Must have personal kitchen tools (chef’s knife, paring knife, steel, bread knife, vegetable peeler).

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced kitchen environment requiring teamwork and attention to detail.
  • Standing, walking, bending, and moving for extended periods.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling items up to 25 lbs. without assistance.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

What We Offer

  • A collaborative and inclusive culinary team environment.
  • Training and opportunities to develop your culinary career.
  • Competitive wages and benefits.
  • Employee discounts on hotel stays, dining, and more.
