Location: The Patch Brewery – Maple Ridge, BC

Employment Type: 35-40 hrs/week, EVENINGS FRIDAY-MONDAY

About Us:

The Patch Brewery is a high-energy, community-focused brewery with two unique kitchens: one featuring a forno pizza oven and another food trailer specializing in burgers and pub favourites. We’re proud to serve great food alongside our craft beer, creating a welcoming and fun environment for our guests and staff alike.

Position Overview:

The Sous Chef supports the Culinary Operations Manager in all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring consistent food quality, efficient service, and a safe, organized work environment. This role is responsible for leading the kitchen team during closing shifts, maintaining standards and creating a consistent and positive work environment for the kitchen team.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership:

  • Lead and inspire the kitchen team to deliver exceptional food quality and service.
  • Provide hands-on support during peak service hours to maintain smooth operations.
  • Act as a role model, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

2. Training and Development:

  • Train, mentor, and develop kitchen staff to achieve their full potential.
  • Conduct regular skills assessments and provide constructive feedback to team members.

3. Shift Management:

  • Oversee and manage kitchen operations during shifts, ensuring efficiency and quality.
  • Make effective shift cuts and schedule adjustments to maintain labor cost targets.

4. Food Quality and Standards:

  • Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented to the highest standards of quality and consistency.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations.

5. Reporting and Process Improvement:

  • Provide daily reports on kitchen operations, staffing, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with the Culinary Operations Manager to analyze workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional kitchen experience
  • Minimum 2 years previous leadership or supervisory experience
  • Culinary Training: Post-secondary diploma, vocational certificate, or apprenticeship in culinary arts is heavily preferred
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead with positivity under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Valid Food Safe Level 2 Certification (or willingness to obtain)

Wage: $23-$26 Hourly wage based on experience + Pooled tips
