Full job description

We have a seasonal Camp Host opportunity on Vancouver Island to begin as soon as possible.

Job description:

Campsite Host in a non-serviced rustic forestry campsite. *REMOTE CAMP, off-grid, no potable water on-site.

Join our team and immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature while contributing to a vibrant outdoor community. Our campgrounds offer a unique opportunity for seasonal staff to enjoy the camping lifestyle while getting paid.

FULL-TIME POSITION | FIXED TERM CONTRACT | SEASONAL

  • 4 months contract beginning in April or May.
  • An on-site presence is required for the duration of the contract. Camp hosts must live and sleep on-site, have their own sleeping unit and be self-sufficient.
  • A personal campsite is provided for the duration of the season (non-serviced / dry camping, with fire ring and picnic table).
  • A vehicle and all tools required for the job are provided.

IMPORTANT! Our campgrounds are remotely located on forest service roads and are considered “rustic dry’’: they have no commodities such as electricity or potable/running water, only pit toilets.

  • This is not a typical job opportunity; it’s part of a lifestyle: you will live, work, and spend a lot of your free time at the same location.
  • Silvifor has a comprehensive Safety Program in place, which will provide you with all the tools and support needed to ensure a safe camping experience.
  • All our positions require a vulnerable sector criminal check as well as a driver's abstract. Following your hiring, you will need to complete some short, free online courses and basic training.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Campsite Hosts are responsible for day-to-day campground operations, maintaining a safe and secure environment for our guests. Here are some examples of the main tasks and expectations:

  • Greeting and checking in campers.
  • Managing reservations and last-minute bookings (first come, first served sites).
  • Revenue collection, writing receipts and cash reconciliations.
  • Presenting the rules and ensuring compliance from guests.
  • Cleaning, painting and maintaining all areas of the park.
  • Occasionally operating vehicles (golf cart or work truck) and small power tools such as weedwhackers and leaf blowers.
  • Complying with safety guidelines and being proficient in emergency procedures.
  • Communicating daily with supervisors and reporting all issues.

EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

A daily presence on-site is required. Campsite Hosts live on-site; they are expected to be there the majority of their time during their contract and to sleep there every night.

REQUIRED:

Ideal candidates will be motivated and physically fit for the job (able to lift 50 pounds and walk around/stand for long periods of time). The following qualifications are also required:

  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ready for basic remote mobile work (laptop/tablet) and proficient with various online protocols (virtual meetings, mobile document scanning, using various mobile apps).
  • Experience in customer service, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Physically fit for outdoor work in a recreational & busy environment in all weather.
  • Capable of movements such as bending, stooping and kneeling.
  • Able to work well, unsupervised, at a fast pace while maintaining quality standards.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, a sense of initiative and attention to detail.
  • Consistency, teamwork, discipline, good social skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Vulnerable sector criminal check record, driving record and eligibility to work in Canada.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • First aid certification level 1 and other training related to the position (WHMIS, FOIPPA, Forest Road Driving Unit).
  • Maintenance, housekeeping or landscaping experience.
  • Property Management or Tourism Industry experience.
  • Any experience with challenging clientele or environment.
  • Cash handling experience.

WHAT YOU NEED :

  • A self-contained vehicle ready for months of off-grid living (such as a; van, camper, or RV, with a reliable source of power such as a generator and/or battery inverter charger system or portable battery; most sites are in the forest).
  • A personal vehicle for commuting as needed to/from the campsite (for your personal errands such as laundry, water fill-up, grocery & time off; most sites are between 40-60min from the closest town).
  • Gas, propane, and water containers.

WHAT WE PROVIDE :

  • A fixed monthly salary with semi-monthly pay via direct deposit.

  • Full training and support, including site orientation, 1-on-1 coaching, online training, safety meetings and weekly on-site visits.
  • Equipment needed to operate as per the required standards: administrative supplies, internet service, safety equipment, maintenance tools, cleaning and toilet supplies, a vehicle such as a golf cart or a small truck
