About The Gourmet Warehouse

The Gourmet Warehouse is a Vancouver specialty food and housewares destination serving home cooks and culinary professionals. Our cooking school offers hands-on and demonstration classes, corporate events, private celebrations, tastings, and customized culinary experiences. We are hiring a dependable dishwasher and kitchen-support professional who can maintain high sanitation standards in a busy live-event environment.

The Opportunity

As a Cooking School Dishwasher / Kitchen Support Attendant, you will keep cookware, dishes, utensils, glassware, and kitchen equipment clean, sanitized, organized, and ready for use. You will maintain the dish area, support class setup and turnover, and complete closing and reset duties. You will work closely with Chef/ Instructors, Kitchen Assistants, Servers, event staff, and managers.

What You Will Do

· Attend pre-shift briefings and review class timing, equipment needs, and special sanitation instructions.

· Set up the dish area with clean racks, sinks, mats, approved chemicals, waste containers, and supplies.

· Collect, scrape, sort, pre-rinse, wash, and sanitize dishes, utensils, cookware, glassware, trays, and kitchen tools.

· Operate dishwashers safely; hand-wash delicate, sharp, oversized, or specialty items as required.

· Inspect cleaned items for residue or damage; rewash items and report breakage when necessary.

· Dry and return clean items promptly to designated storage, cooking, service, or event areas.

· Keep clean and dirty items separated and maintain clear, safe walkways around the dish area.

· Prioritize items needed by the kitchen and service teams to prevent class or event delays.

· Empty garbage, recycling, and compost; clean spills; and maintain sinks, drains, counters, carts, and floors.

· Follow FOODSAFE, sanitation, chemical-handling, incident-reporting, and health-and-safety procedures.

· Complete end-of-class cleaning, dishwasher and sink cleaning, restocking, waste removal, and kitchen reset.

What You Bring

· Commercial dishwashing, kitchen utility, food-service, banquet, or catering experience is preferred.

· Valid FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate, or ability to obtain it before the first independent shift.

· Valid WHMIS Certification or willing to complete once hired.

· Knowledge of safe washing, rinsing, sanitizing, chemical use, and cross-contamination prevention.

· Ability to work quickly, organize priorities, and maintain consistent cleanliness during busy events.

· A dependable, cooperative, and respectful approach to teamwork.

· Comfort working around heat, steam, water, noise, wet floors, and cleaning products.

· Flexible evening, weekend, and holiday availability for 24-40 hours per week.

· Ability to stand, bend, reach, and walk throughout entire shift and safely lift/carry approximately 30 lb.

· Willingness to complete repetitive physical tasks carefully and consistently.

· Legal authorization to work in Canada.

Assets

· Commercial dish-machine, three-compartment sink, and kitchen-closing experience.

· Cooking-school, restaurant, hotel, banquet, catering, bakery, or institutional-kitchen experience.

· Experience handling fragile glassware, cookware, knives, small appliances, and specialty kitchen tools.

· Current First Aid, Foodsafe, WHMIS certifications(or workplace chemical-safety training).

· Flexibility to assist with kitchen setup, stocking, receiving, event turnover, or cleaning duties.

What Success Looks Like

· The dish area is set up, stocked, and ready before the class or event.

· Clean and sanitized items are available when the kitchen and service teams need them.

· The dish area, floors, drains, carts, and waste stations remain safe and sanitary.

· Breakage, shortages, equipment problems, spills, and safety concerns are reported promptly.

· Closing duties are complete and the kitchen is clean and ready for the next event.
