Full job description

Come join a dynamic, fast-paced and growing media company looking for an energetic full-time reporter with a passion for community news. The ideal candidate will have a distinct interest in covering municipal matters, community events, and human interest stories in Caledon and surrounding area. This role provides a great opportunity for growth within an expanding network of local newspapers and media outlets across Ontario.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Reporting work for weekly community newspapers and special projects

- Will produce at least eight stories and bylines per week

- Will be paid full time 40 hour a week salary, paid on bi-weekly payroll

- Generate story ideas and follow up on news tips

- Cover Municipal Council

- Take photographs

- Work some evenings and weekends as required

- This reporter will be required to attend events in person in the Caledon area, as well as be required to work sometimes from the office in Bolton, ON

- Some work may be done remotely

QUALIFICATIONS

- diploma or degree in journalism preferred

- demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines

- excellent writing, editing and photography skills

- valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

- reporting experience an asset

- experience working on the editorial side of the newspaper industry an asset

- an interest in local issues is a necessity as the majority of the writing for this role will be local

Pay: From $45,000.00 per year
