Position Summary

The Production Manager assists and works closely with the Plant Manager with day-to-day production operations including production planning, production activities and quality control. The incumbent plays a key role in ensuring the successful operations of the plant.

 Responsibilities

Production/Operations:
  • Oversees framing area, treating, shipping, receiving, maintenance and quality control activities.
  • Support plant manager with management duties.
  • Approve production orders and interacts frequently with the procurement and planning groups.
  • Collects, maintains and review production data for potential improvements.
  • Actively participate in cycle and annual inventory.
  • Monitors quality and workmanship to ensure quality control.
  • Works closely with various departments to optimize inventory loss with maximum recovery.
  • Participates in facility improvements projects.
  • Available for on call for emergencies and alarms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Employee Relations:
  • Planning of production schedules and communicate with Production Supervisor for labor requirements.
  • Manages payroll transactions.
  • Manages employee relations and performance management.
  • Handle job posting and recruitment.
  • Provides/oversees training for all production staff and supervisors.
  • Ensures plant guidelines are enforced.
  • Manages employees’ vacation requests.
Health and Safety and TRD programs:
  • Ensures that environmental and safety policies, quality standards, and standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Provides guidance on occupational health and safety programs and on the TRD program.
  • Informs employees on safety process and procedures.
  • Actively participates in the health and safety committee.
  • Assist the plant manager with workplace safety insurance board accident reporting when required.
  • Commits to plant safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in production management, preferably in a manufacturing or wood products environment.
  • Mechanical and Technical skills and competencies is required.
  • Proficiency in English, spoken and written.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, prioritization and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Excellent leadership skills - “Lead by example” work manner.
  • Ability to train, motivate and coach employees.
  • Time and stress management.
  • Intermediate Computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • SAP environment experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of wood treating industry.
  • Knowledge of health and safety Standards.
