JOB PROFILE

The Site Quality Assurance Lead will be responsible for evaluating and managing the site processes, products, and programs of the Pennfield, NB Feed manufacturing facility to ensure the best practices and compliance with both internal and external quality regulations.

These responsibilities include managing the site Quality Management System from raw material through processing to finished product sampling and external testing to product safety while working within the framework of approved department and company procedures, policies, budgets, and programs.

This position will be based in Pennfield, New Brunswick at the Acadian Seaplants Limited Manufacturing Facility.

RELATIONSHIPS

The Site Quality Assurance Lead will report to the Sr. Director of Global Food Safety and Quality Management Systems.

The position works indirectly with the Plant Manager, Supervisors, Manufacturing personnel, Sales, Technical staff, and other operations personnel to provide timely indication of and control of process and product quality.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Managing Quality budget for the site (consumables, testing, etc.).
  • Product Release of products in SAP
  • Generate, record, COAs and report accurate data in accordance with company standards and organize and maintain quality control records/data in an orderly fashion.
  • Track progress and highlight any critical non-conformance, reducing risk to product and poor cost of quality via internal audits.
  • Maintenance of Retained Sample Storage
  • Arrange the testing of products through external laboratories as required for positive release and water sampling, environmental swabs and testing on a regular basis and as required.
  • Lead, Manage and Maintain HACCP for Feed/Petfood for Pennfield process.
  • Maintaining all certification and trace certificates of inspection for goods exported.
  • Site contact for CFIA to co-ordinate with CFIA – for Sanitary Certificates and any license requirements as required.
  • Keep up to date with Regulatory standards and communicate and integrate with site QMS as required with timely implementation to ensure compliance and food safety, etc.
  • Manage and Lead with Plant Manager – Internal Audits, Third-Party Certification Audits, Customer audits, etc., (schedules / actual audit preparations/ actual audits) on site including sufficient tracking for CAPAs, timely close-outs and replies to certifying bodies / customers via Business Excellence.
  • Manage Supplier information for Pennfield Suppliers with integration with Corporate Procurement Team for packaging if required.
  • Support completing any VQ from Customer on behalf of ASL Business Excellence Team for QA information.
  • Conduct internal GMP, Process and traceability audits and environmental swabbing within a schedule and feedback to Plant manager and agree corrective and preventative actions to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Conduct direct product investigations (CAPA) on customer complaints or internal quality issues to find preventative solutions and report on a timely basis via Smartsheet and internal processes.
  • Report and present quality related feedback on Resource and Production monthly Taskforce Meetings, QA meetings and weekly Sales production meeting.
  • Support any projects required by the business for Quality accountability and outline strategies required and any reporting or feedback to the business including other facilities if required.
  • Encourage the proper quality culture mindset of all employees at the facility with respect to the assurance of quality and product safety throughout the operation.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree or community college diploma in a scientific discipline, or an equivalent.
  • 1-3 years working in experience in a feed/petfood manufacturing industry in Quality environment preferably in Canada would be an advantage asset.
  • Certified SQFP / ISO Auditor certification is an asset.
  • CFIA, FeedAssure/FEMAS and Petfood regulations, knowledge and understanding must be mandatory.
  • Proved track record as an effective team member in a manufacturing environment, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • An essential requirement is attention to detail in all aspects of this position.
  • Must be able to conduct QA Internal auditing experience and CAPA management experience
  • Must be able to manage HACCP and training.
  • Must be competent in SAP, MS Excel and Word and Power-Point.
  • Data Analysis skills
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Some knowledge on conducting Environmental monitoring would be beneficial.
  • Ability to think critically and act logically to evaluate situations and make decisions.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Commitment to excellence.
  • Self-motivated on the job.

Education:
