Position Highlights
Capital Construction, within Project Delivery, is responsible for a multi-billion-dollar portfolio comprising of more than 2,000
active contracts. The Capital Construction Group safely delivers large, multi-disciplined, complex high-risk projects that span
multiple years. The group adheres to well-developed standards, has developed and maintained outstanding supplier
partnerships as well as stakeholder and First Nations relations. Through continuous improvement of our people, processes,
and tools, we are responsible for all aspects of the safe construction of capital projects. This senior leadership role will be
based in the Vernon, Prince George or Edmonds office, within the Capital Construction Interior Division of Project Delivery.
They are responsible for overseeing the construction of large, complex projects and for building and supporting a high-
performing construction management team to deliver these projects of provincial and national importance. The role is
accountable for the leadership, performance, and continuous improvement of the Interior Lines construction function
including workforce planning, organizational capability, succession planning, and long-term portfolio delivery readiness.
What you'll do
- Leads the management of construction work on the Interior 2 portfolio with contracts of significant dollar value, complexity,
- Accountable for the overall construction performance of the Interior 2 portfolio including delivery strategy, resource
- Responsible for delivering on the construction component of large, complex high-risk projects that span multiple years,
relationships and stakeholder relations.
- Is appointed BC Hydro’s Representative and becomes accountable for ensuring the completion of contract work in an
costs; negotiates work changes and equitable adjustment requests; makes ruling on disputes between Hydro and
contractors; investigates and resolves construction claims on BC Hydro’s behalf.
- Develops overall construction portfolio plans, strategies and resource requirements and provides support for
- Develops long-term workforce, succession, organizational capability and resource plans to support current and future
- Manages the implementation of the projects within agreed upon scope, timeline and budget, using a high level of
- Provides strategic direction for construction programs and projects, engaging and building strong networks with relevant
priorities, and business objectives.
- Provides advice and guidance to Project Managers or Directors regarding constructability and construction management
- Provides leadership to a large team in meeting the portfolio goals, including setting performance objectives, providing
safety and high engagement.
- Provides leadership and direction to Construction Managers, professional staff and contractors responsible for delivery of
and ensures organizational readiness to meet future business requirements.
- Investigates and analyzes challenging or unusual problems of a construction nature, develops alternative solutions,
- Supervises the production of project site documentation and financial reports.
- Tracks contractor progress and performance in accordance with project objectives and priorities.
- Ensure compliance by BC Hydro and its contractors with applicable permits, agreements and with commitments to First
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety and creates a culture where safety is first, and employees are recognized for
- Acts as a Specialist regarding Construction related matters to anyone across all lines of business. Can be considered a
- Utilizes the rigorous systems, processes, tools and resources BC Hydro has in place for managing large projects. This
- Leads continuous improvement initiatives that enhance construction delivery, contractor performance, safety outcomes,
- Conducts regular construction site visits to provide support to employees/external resources and to ensure all applicable
- Provides input and participates in the public consultation process as it pertains to construction site activities and issues.
What you bring
- A degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or Commercial Management. An
- A minimum of 15 years direct and progressively more complex experience including considerable experience with electric
- Strong leadership skills demonstrated through successfully leading managers, professional staff and multidisciplinary
- Demonstrated experience in strategic workforce planning, resource management, succession planning and leadership
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, influencing, negotiation, and facilitation skills, at all levels of the
- Excellent working knowledge of project costing, scheduling, and scope/quality/quantity management, contract
- Strong understanding and knowledge of various types of construction methods
- Demonstrated knowledge in construction methods and procedures for construction of substations, capacitor stations and
- Successful experience working with First Nation partnerships and businesses in a construction environment is considered
- Experience delivering projects that include co-ownership with First Nations is considered an asset
- Must be competent in driving in all weather conditions
- A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver's License: Class 5
