Full job description

General Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Indigenous Education or designate, the First Nations Resource Clerk will support the delivery of culturally responsive services, programs, and resources for Indigenous individuals, families, and community members. They will serve as a welcoming first point of contact, helping visitors access information, navigate services, and connect with programs that support their well-being, education, employment, and community engagement.

TYPICAL DUTIES & Responsibilities

Resource and Inventory Management

· Coordinate and maintain inventory of educational, cultural, and office resources, including books, teaching materials, technology, supplies, and cultural items.

· Monitor resource usage and replenish inventory as required.

· Organize and maintain storage areas to ensure resources are accessible, accurately tracked, and in good condition.

· Assist with purchasing and procurement processes in accordance with district policies and procedures.

Records Management and Archiving

· Maintain accurate and confidential records related to programs, services, events, and client interactions.

· Develop and maintain filing systems for physical and electronic records.

· Archive historical documents, reports, photographs, newsletters, and Indigenous Education materials in accordance with district records management practices.

· Support the preservation and organization of Indigenous Education resources and documentation for future reference.

Centre Operations and Administration

· Support the day-to-day operation of the Indigenous Resource Centre, ensuring a welcoming, organized, and culturally safe environment.

· Coordinate room bookings, meeting schedules, resource lending, and event logistics.

· Prepare correspondence, meeting agendas, minutes, reports, and presentations.

· Respond to inquiries from students, families, staff, and community partners in a timely and professional manner.

Data Collection and Reporting

· Track program participation, resource utilization, and client engagement statistics.

· Maintain databases and reporting systems to support district and Ministry reporting requirements.

· Assist with data analysis and the preparation of annual reports, funding applications, grant proposals, and program evaluations.

Community and Cultural Engagement

· Support of the Role Model Program, including: processing criminal record checks, role model requests, and per diems.

· Coordinate visits from Elders, Knowledge Keepers, presenters, and community partners.

· Support cultural events, ceremonies, and Indigenous Education initiatives across the district.

· Promote awareness of Indigenous cultures, histories, and perspectives through resource sharing and community engagement activities.

Collaboration and Support

· Work collaboratively with Indigenous Education staff, school administrators, teachers, support staff, and community organizations.

· Assist in identifying and addressing barriers to student and family engagement.

· Support district goals related to Indigenous student success, belonging, equity, and reconciliation.

Typical QUALIFICATIONS & Skills

  • Grade 12.
  • Intimate knowledge of First Nations Language and Culture
  • One year post-secondary program in Indigenous studies.
  • Strong administrative skills and experience in a variety of Microsoft Suite software including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • One year experience in an administrative or clerical role
  • B.C. Class 5 Driver's License.

Preference will be given to qualified applicants of Indigenous ancestry with intimate knowledge of local Indigenous language and culture.

Pay: Up to $30.75 per hour
