Full job description

Cactus Ship Repair Inc. is private, locally-owned, full service marine repair and logistics provider based out of Newfoundland. We have locations in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Additional info about our business can be found on our website: https://www.cactusshiprepair.ca/

Cactus is hiring a full-time experienced 150T boat captain (60T captains will be considered) to lead its marine division based out of our Port Hawkesbury, NS location. Candidates must live near Port Hawkesbury or be willing to relocated.

What you bring:

In this role you will work two weeks on the vessel and two weeks ashore. You will be responsible for managing the harbour operations, ensuring the safety of marine crews, and ensuring vessel maintenance is kept up with regulatory and operational requirements.

You will be responsible to:

· Ensure the safe operation of the vessel at all times (in various water conditions)

· Ensure the safety of all personnel on board

· Ensure the safe carriage of cargo or tow, and

· Maintain and inspect boat equipment, including mechanical components

· Manage all emergency situations and ensure they are managed appropriately in accordance with our SOPs

· Prepare voyage plans and recording all the vessel’s activities

Minimal Qualifications:

· Master, Limited for Vessel less than 60 Gross Tonnage

· Restricted Operator Certificate - Maritime Commercial

· Marine Basic First Aid

· Small Vessel Machinery Operator (without restriction) Certificate

· Excellent communication and leadership skills

Desired Attributes:

· Able to accurately perform record-keeping tasks

· Able to meet and deal with the public in a diplomatic and courteous manner

· Able to receive and follow instructions from supervisor(s)

What we offer:

Full-time competitive salary with benefits. Limited travel; you will be home every night.
