Why join us?

The IESO is committed to ensuring Ontario’s electricity system meets the province’s needs today and into the future. We are charged with purpose, delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity for homes, businesses, and communities across the province. We are energized to grow, embracing opportunities to shape the future of a dynamic and evolving energy sector while advancing our careers. We are powered by teamwork, supported by diverse and passionate colleagues who foster respect, celebrate successes, and thrive on shared achievements. At the IESO, it’s not just what we do—it’s who we are!

Who we are

Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come.

This is a unionized position that falls within the Government Affairs team within Corporate Relations, Engagement and Strategy business unit.

What makes this role exciting

The energy sector is rapidly evolving, offering exciting new opportunities for those who want to make a difference.

Are you looking to accelerate your career in government relations and public policy? In this role, you will have the chance to gain hands-on experience in public affairs, policy analysis, and stakeholder relations while supporting the IESO's engagement with government stakeholders. Reporting to the Manager, Government Affairs, you will work with senior leaders and government officials to advance the IESO's business and legislative priorities. As a main point of contact with government stakeholders, you will build strong relationships to deliver government-facing activities through research, analysis, briefing material development, calendar management, correspondence coordination, approval tracking, project coordination, and issue monitoring. You will track key commitments and provide analysis on policy and regulatory developments affecting Ontario's energy sector.

What you’ll do

In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

  • Support the Government Affairs team in a fast-paced, high-profile environment, helping coordinate priority initiatives, manage competing deadlines, and ensure critical deliverables move forward efficiently.
  • Build relationships with senior leaders across the IESO and government stakeholders while supporting the team's efforts to advance corporate, legislative, and public policy objectives.
  • Manage the flow of high-volume, time-sensitive requests, issues, and stakeholder inquiries, helping to prioritize activities and coordinate timely responses to evolving government and business needs.
  • Coordinate complex internal review and approval processes under tight timelines to deliver high-quality materials for executive and government audiences.
  • Prepare, edit, and quality-control briefing notes, presentations, correspondence, reports, speaking materials, and executive-ready communications that support strategic decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
  • Conduct research and analysis on emerging policy, legislative, regulatory, and industry developments.
  • Support strategic relationship building by managing calendars for stakeholder meetings, executive engagements, strategic projects, and government-facing activities.
  • Liaison with internal partners to coordinate logistics and communications for cross-functional projects.
  • Recommend improvements to team processes, tracking systems, and information management practices to enhance efficiency and operational effectiveness.

Role Requirements

Our team consists of experts from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their unique perspectives and skills.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study such as Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Government Affairs, or equivalent working experience.
  • 4+ years of experience supporting government relations, public policy, public affairs, regulatory, or related functions.
  • Experience researching issues, preparing briefing materials, coordinating approvals, managing requests, and supporting senior staff in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex executive calendars, stakeholder engagement and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail and follow-through, with the ability to manage a high volume of complex, time-sensitive work.
  • Experience using sound judgment to assess and solve scheduling and logistical decisions in the context of organizational priorities and stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience building strong relationships with executive level stakeholders and employing diplomacy, tact, and discretion as appropriate to address time sensitive matters.
  • Proven record using technology to optimize processes including the use of AI.

From a comprehensive total rewards program to dynamic learning and development opportunities—including job rotations to broaden your expertise—we empower you to define and shape your own success. When you join the IESO, here’s what you can expect:

  • Best-in-class benefits and long-term support in the form of a defined benefit pension plan.
  • Work in a dynamic and evolving sector that offers exciting opportunities and the chance to explore new career paths.
  • Leadership that values meaningful discussions, welcomes feedback, and prioritizes career development.
  • A strong, inclusive culture and a collaborative team environment with a shared passion for impactful work.
  • Compensation packages that are regularly reviewed to remain competitive and to best accommodate the diverse needs of our employees.
