Full job description

Full-Time Private Homeschool Teacher

Private Teaching Position — Canmore, Alberta

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced, dedicated private homeschool teacher for two children currently at the elementary school level. This is a full-time, hybrid role: the children attend traditional school 2-3 days per week, and this position covers homeschool instruction on the remaining days, along with lesson preparation, curriculum planning, and general support to the children and family on school days. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate educator to deliver a rich, curriculum-based education while nurturing the children's talents in music, language, and physical activity. Flexibility to travel with the family is essential, as instruction will continue while away from home.
WEEKLY SCHEDULE
  • Home Instruction Days (2-3 days/week): Full-day, hands-on teaching following the approved curriculum, plus French language instruction and daily support/encouragement for piano, singing, and swim practice
  • School Days (2-3 days/week): Lesson planning and curriculum prep for home instruction days, coordination with the children's school as needed, and general support to the children and family
  • Full-time position year-round, with schedule adjustments during school breaks and family travel

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan and deliver lessons for two elementary-aged students on home instruction days, following an approved curriculum
  • Prepare lesson plans and materials on school days to ensure continuity and progress on home instruction days
  • Assess and track academic progress, adapting instruction to each child's learning style and pace
  • Support and encourage daily piano and vocal practice as part of the routine schedule (formal instruction not required — a piano/voice tutor is engaged separately)
  • Support and encourage swim practice and supervise water safety as part of the daily routine (formal swim instruction not required)
  • Foster French language learning through immersive, day-to-day instruction
  • Provide general support to the children and family on school days, as needed
  • Travel with the family as required, maintaining consistency and continuity in schooling while away from home
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment at all times
  • Communicate regularly with parents on curriculum progress, milestones, and any areas of concern

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven teaching experience, ideally with elementary-aged children
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and implement a structured academic curriculum
  • Comfortable and capable in the water, able to supervise and support swim practice
  • Fluent French speaker, able to teach or converse comfortably with children
  • Comfortable supporting and encouraging daily piano and vocal practice (formal music training an asset, not required)
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required by the role
  • Excellent communication skills and a warm, patient, and engaging teaching style
  • Clean background check / vulnerable sector check required (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally, an asset

WHAT WE OFFER
  • Highly competitive compensation, commensurate with experience
  • A stable, full-time position with a private family
  • Opportunities to travel
  • A warm, supportive, and close-knit family environment

Salary: $110K - $130K per year, depending on experience

Location: Canmore Alberta
