Overview
Roasta Cafe is a hub for community and craft, and we're looking for an experienced Barista to be the heart of our coffee program. This role is perfect for a skilled coffee professional who is passionate about quality and enjoys guiding a team to success. You'll be instrumental in shaping our coffee culture and ensuring every customer has an exceptional experience.

ResponsibilitiesTechnical Coffee Expertise & Quality Control

  • Act as the lead technical expert for the bar, performing daily calibration of grinders and espresso machines to ensure optimal extraction.
  • Proactively monitor and troubleshoot beverage quality, ensuring every drink served meets our highest standards for taste and presentation.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead shifts by example, setting a positive and efficient pace for the team and fostering a collaborative workflow, especially during peak hours.
  • Train and mentor fellow baristas, actively developing their skills in technical coffee preparation, milk steaming, latte art, and customer engagement.

Guest Experience & Engagement

  • Champion an exceptional customer experience that goes beyond transactional service.
  • Actively engage with guests, passionately sharing knowledge about our coffee, and cultivating a welcoming atmosphere that builds community and customer loyalty.

Operational & Administrative Duties

  • Perform keyholder responsibilities, reliably executing all opening and closing procedures.
  • Manage inventory for coffee, dairy, and paper supplies, including ordering, receiving, and restocking.
  • Contribute creatively to the development of new seasonal drink offerings.

Health, Safety & Cafe Standards

  • Uphold impeccable standards of cleanliness and organization throughout the entire cafe, including the bar, dining areas, and food preparation stations.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all health department regulations and food safety procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

  • You have a minimum of four (4) years of experience working in a specialty coffee environment
  • You possess a thorough knowledge of espresso theory, including calibrating grinders, diagnosing extraction issues, and consistently pulling high-quality shots.
  • You have expert-level skill in milk texturing and can create consistent, beautiful free-pour latte art
  • You have Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests.
  • You maintain a calm and efficient presence, especially during busy periods, and excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • A valid Ontario Food Handler Certification is preferred.
  • Available to work on weekends and holidays
