DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will use the nursing process to assist with the development and implementation of a plan of care for patients receiving treatment in the Durham Regional Cancer Centre. As a nurse in the Ambulatory Clinics, you will demonstrate professionalism and maintain competence in all aspects of patient care. You will maintain nursing records and perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) (in good standing) required;
  • Completion of de Souza Institute Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice course or equivalent required;
  • Current BCLS required;
  • IV start certification preferred;
  • Recent experience in oncology nursing (on an acute oncology floor or ambulatory oncology clinic with the past 3 years) preferred;
  • Evidence of continuing education in the field of oncology nursing preferred;
  • BScN is preferred;
  • Membership in Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO), Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO), Canadian Nurses Association certification as Certified Oncology Nurse (CON(C)) are assets;
  • Willingness to complete Canadian Nurses Association certification as Certified Oncology Nurse (CON(C)) when eligible to write is an asset;
  • Skills managing CVADs (PICC/PORT) and wound care is an asset;
  • Experience with electronic documentation and electrical medical records is an asset;
  • Experience providing symptom management over the telephone is an asset;
Necessary attributes:
  • Sound knowledge, judgement, critical thinking, and patient assessment skills;
  • Ability to work autonomously and safely to full nursing scope of practice with minimal assistance;
  • Ability to work and perform in stressful and emotionally intense situations;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills, and experience in patient teaching;
  • Organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills;
  • Ability to self-reflect on nursing practice and implement learning strategies where appropriate; commitment to maintain CNO Reflective Practice Standards;
  • Physically capable of lifting, turning and transferring patients manually and with mechanical aids;
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;
  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participating in regular in-services in this area.
