The Dufferin Area Family Health Team (DAFHT is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and clinically skilled Mental Health Therapist to join our interdisciplinary team serving the Dufferin-Caledon region.

About the Role
Mental Health Therapists are an integral part of DAFHT’s interdisciplinary care team, working alongside physicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, and allied health professionals to deliver accessible, patient-centered mental health care.
In this role, you will provide evidence-based psychotherapy and mental health support to youth (16+) and adults experiencing a broad range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, substance use concerns, grief, stress, and other mental health conditions. You will work within a collaborative primary care environment where innovation, teamwork, and holistic care are valued.
What You Will Do
As a Mental Health Therapist, you will:
Provide individual psychotherapy and counselling to youth (16+) and adults experiencing a range of situational, interpersonal, emotional, and mental health concerns.
Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, formulate treatment plans, and monitor progress toward therapeutic goals.
Deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed, and strengths-based psychotherapy that supports recovery, resilience, and improved quality of life.
Utilize therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and other evidence-based approaches.
Assess and respond appropriately to clinical risk, including suicide risk, self-harm, crisis situations, and substance use concerns.
Provide brief, focused interventions within a primary care model while adapting treatment approaches to individual patient needs.
Participate in the development and co-facilitation of therapeutic groups, workshops, and psychoeducational programming.
Collaborate closely with family physicians, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and other interdisciplinary team members to provide coordinated care.
Contribute to case consultations and integrated care planning within the Family Health Team.
Maintain timely, accurate, and professional clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
Demonstrate cultural humility, inclusivity, and sensitivity when working with individuals of diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences.
Stay current with emerging evidence and best practices in psychotherapy and mental health care.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Counselling Psychology (MA/MEd), or equivalent clinical graduate degree.
Registration and membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) .
Minimum three (3) years of experience providing psychotherapy and counselling services within healthcare, community mental health, primary care, or related settings.
Demonstrated expertise in mental health assessment, treatment planning, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and risk assessment.
Formal training and experience in evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as CBT, DBT, IPT, EFT, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or Solution-Focused Therapy.
Strong clinical judgment and the ability to engage patients with varying mental health concerns.
Excellent engagement, communication, counselling, and therapeutic relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently, manage a clinical caseload effectively, and contribute positively within an interdisciplinary team environment.
Knowledge of local mental health, addiction, and community support services within Dufferin-Caledon and surrounding regions.
Proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical documentation.
Successful Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within Family Health Teams, Community Health Centres, hospital outpatient programs, or other integrated primary care settings.
Experience facilitating psychotherapy groups and psychoeducational programs.
Specialized training in therapy for anxiety disorders, trauma, eating disorders or addiction.
Experience providing both in-person and virtual psychotherapy services.
Working Conditions and Requirements
Permanent Full-Time position (37.5 hours per week).
Hybrid work environment, combining community-based, clinic-based, and virtual care.
Valid Ontario Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and appropriate automobile insurance.
Regular travel throughout Dufferin-Caledon, including Orangeville, Shelburne, Bolton, and surrounding communities.
One evening per week is required based on client/ program needs.
