View Eye Care is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and patient-focused Optometric Technician to join our growing team.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with patients, thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment, and is passionate about delivering exceptional eye care experiences.

As an Optometric Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our doctors through comprehensive pre-testing, patient education, administrative support, and inventory management. You will help ensure efficient clinic operations while providing outstanding patient care and service.

We are hiring an Optometric Technician and are open to candidates ranging from entry-level technicians to experienced technicians interested in a Lead Technician role. Compensation and responsibilities will be based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Diagnostic Testing

Perform pre-testing and diagnostic procedures accurately and efficiently, including:

  • Auto-refraction
  • Lensometry
  • Tonometry
  • iPen testing
  • Visual Fields
  • Optos imaging
  • OCT imaging
  • HRT testing
  • Meibography
  • Ocular Surface Assessment testing
  • Neurolens testing
  • Stereo and Colour Vision testing
  • Collect and document patient history, including contact lens usage
  • Prepare patients for examinations and explain testing procedures clearly.
  • Assist with contact lens insertion and removal training
  • Maintain patient comfort and provide excellent customer service throughout the visit

Documentation & Administration

  • Accurately document patient information within electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Complete pre-exam documentation and flow sheets
  • Verify billing accuracy, invoicing, and OHIP entries following appointments

Equipment & Inventory Management

  • Perform daily start-up, shut-down, cleaning, maintenance, and archiving procedures for diagnostic equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Manage inventory and ordering of contact lens samples, OTC products, and supplies
  • Ensure exam rooms remain fully stocked and organized

Patient Care & Customer Service

  • Deliver warm, professional, and compassionate care to every patient
  • Communicate effectively with patients of all ages and backgrounds
  • Answer questions within your scope while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Support a positive patient experience from check-in through checkout

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with doctors and team members
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive, and respectful workplace culture
  • Communicate professionally and proactively
  • Assist colleagues as needed to ensure smooth clinic operations

Additional Responsibilities for Lead Role:

  • Train, mentor, and onboard new technicians to ensure consistent clinical and patient care standards.
  • Oversee daily technician workflow, patient flow, and task delegation to support efficient clinic operations.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to team members while fostering a positive team culture.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, documentation standards, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between technicians, doctors, and management and suppliers to address operational needs and implement process improvements.

  • Experience with EMR systems and medical documentation
  • Knowledge of basic ocular anatomy and common eye conditions
  • Experience with contact lens training or diagnostic testing equipment
