Job Summary

Centre Electric & Technology is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Communications Cabling Technician to join our growing Communications Division. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to further their career in Communications Cabling systems installation and maintenance while working in a dynamic and safety-focused environment.

As a Senior Communications Cabling Technician, you will be responsible for running projects and performing the installation, servicing, and troubleshooting of a variety of Communications Cabling Installations. You will work closely with other technicians and office staff to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of quality.

This role requires a proactive problem-solver with strong attention to detail, the ability to self-start, and a willingness to lead or mentor other technicians when needed. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of low-voltage systems, cable routing, and device mounting, and be able to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Your role as a Senior Communications Cabling Technician will involve the installation, servicing, and troubleshooting of communications cabling systems in commercial and industrial settings. You will work closely with other technicians, project managers, and office staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and high-quality service delivery. A proactive mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and lead when needed are essential for success in this role. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Full-Time Availability: This is a requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. available to work occasional evening and weekend shifts if required. Occasional overtime or work outside regular hours may be required, with compensation provided in accordance with Ontario labour laws.
  • System Installation & Servicing: Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot various communications systems including Category 6, Category 6A, Multi-Mode & Single-Mode systems along with Wireless Access Points & simple A/V systems.
  • Site Foreman: Plan and direct others on a jobs site to ensure maximum efficiency of tasks.
  • Technical Documentation: Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and product manuals to ensure accurate installation and compliance with specifications.
  • Worksite Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Follow all workplace safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE and tools.
  • Client & Team Communication: Collaborate with other site supervisors, office staff, and other technicians. Communicate clearly with clients when needed and provide excellent service and support.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Demonstrate the ability to work independently on standard service calls and installations. Provide guidance to junior technicians as needed.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve system issues, wiring errors, or connectivity problems in the field.
  • Professional Conduct: Maintain a high standard of punctuality, professionalism, and reliability in all aspects of work.
  • Tool and Vehicle Use: Operate and maintain security tools and test equipment. A company phone, laptop, and vehicle (after a 3-month Probation Period) will be provided for work purposes.

Requirements

  • Experience: Proven experience in a Senior Communications Cabling Technician role.
  • Technical Knowledge: Must have at least 7 years’ experience directly in Structured Cabling.
  • Mechanical & Tool Proficiency: Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to operate various hand tools effectively.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and wiring schematics.
  • Licensing: Possession of a valid G Driver’s License with a clean driving record is mandatory.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, coworkers, and office staff.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on completing tasks accurately and maintaining high standards of work quality.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, supporting fellow technicians and project leaders.
  • Reliability: Demonstrates punctuality, professionalism, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Safety Awareness: Committed to maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
