Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the health and safety program on an active construction site by promoting safe work practices, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture. Working closely with project teams, supervisors, and workers, the Safety Coordinator conducts site inspections, assists with hazard identification, supports incident reporting, and helps implement site-specific safety initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career health and safety professional to gain hands-on experience, receive mentorship from experienced industry leaders, and build a strong foundation in construction safety.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Site Compliance & Monitoring: Conduct daily site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to ensure all active construction activities adhere to health and safety regulations.
  • Personnel Support & Coaching: Monitor safe work practices, verify that proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn consistently, and provide guidance to supervisors and workers on site-specific safety protocols.
  • Communication & Engagement: Lead and participate in daily or weekly toolbox talks and safety meetings to maintain high safety awareness across the project.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Assist in preparing detailed reports for incident investigations and near-misses, and ensure all safety logs, permits, and records are accurately maintained.
  • Culture Advocacy: Support the implementation of site-specific safety plans, encouraging worker engagement and accountability.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Environment: Based full-time on an active construction project site, requiring exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions.
  • Requirements: Walking and standing for extended periods on uneven terrain. Appropriate PPE must be worn at all times while on-site.
  • Schedule: Occasional extended hours may be required to align with project milestones.
Candidate Qualifications
This position is specifically designed to welcome those early in their health and safety career who possess a strong foundational knowledge and a passion for the field.
  • Education: Post-secondary education (degree, diploma, or certificate) in Occupational Health & Safety or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience: 1 year of practical experience on a construction site or 1 year site exposure to a Heavy Industrial Manufacturing plant; a strong desire to learn and grow within a fast-paced construction environment is essential.
  • Certifications: WHMIS and Working at Heights training are required and will be provided if the candidate does not have them.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
Core Competencies
  • Adaptable & Collaborative: Proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to professionally influence others.
  • Excellent attention to detail and observational skills.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset regarding risk management

  • Career Foundation: Gain invaluable, hands-on field experience on a major, high-profile project.
  • Professional Development: Receive direct mentorship from seasoned project supervisors and industry professionals.
  • Competitive Compensation: An hourly rate of $30.00 - $33.00 per hour depending on education and foundational knowledge.
