Position: Health and Safety Specialist
Location: Woodbridge
Type of Employment: Full-Time – Monday to Friday – 40 Hours per week
What to Expect
SUMMARY: The Health and Safety (H&S) Specialist will leverage their skills and knowledge to maintain a culture of health and safety within all ATS Healthcare facilities. Responsibilities will include developing, implementing and maintaining policies, conducting inspections and providing safety training to employees. As a safety leader, the H&S specialist will stay informed on industry trends and legislative changes and communicate information to relevant stakeholders. The H&S Specialist is also responsible to maintain a safe, discrimination free, positive workplace environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement and maintain health and safety policies, procedures and programs ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
- Collaborate with training department to develop health and safety focused training programs and provide training and education to employees on safety procedures ensuring comprehension and compliance to policies.
- Oversee JHSC committees for different locations, reviewing workplace inspection audits and assisting with implementing actions / recommendations.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Complete documentation resulting from these including worker’s compensation requirements.
- Liaise with medical practitioners and/or WCB’s / WSIB in relation to ATS Healthcare’s Early Safe Return to Work program. In addition, work closely with department heads to arrange for any modified duties that may be required.
- Stay current on industry trends, best practices and regulatory changes related to health and safety and communicate relevant information.
- Coordinate with external regulatory bodies such as the Labour Program and Workers Compensation Boards ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
- Participate in the development and implementation of emergency response plans and procedures, including evacuations protocols, first aid training and crisis management.
- Review all Change Control documentation to assess any H&S impact/risk.
- Maintain MSDS documentation for all sites.
- Promote and foster a culture of health and safety awareness and accountability.
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-Secondary completion of a recognized H&S certificate or degree
- 3+ years of experience working in a health and safety focused position.
- Excellent understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and regulations
- CRSP® designation an asset
- Experience working with provincial worker’s compensation boards and WSIB.
- Strong communication & organizational skills
- Knowledge of recognized Health and Safety best practices
- Knowledge of Transportation and Logistics activities
- Exceptional Keyboard and Computer literacy skills
- Experience in a GMP environment
- Able to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment
