Position Summary

In accordance with the vision, mission, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, the Manager, Laboratory & Medical Imaging Operations provides accountable site- and area-based operational leadership for Laboratory and Medical Imaging services across assigned facilities. The role is responsible for the planning, coordination, day-to-day delivery, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement of diagnostic services at the local level, ensuring services are safe, timely, high-quality, patient-centered, and aligned with organizational priorities, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. The Manager is accountable for implementing regional operational strategies, policies, and standards across assigned sites. The role oversees workforce coordination, resource utilization, quality and safety activities, and operational issue resolution, and ensures consistent application of professional practice and operational standards. System-level risks, capacity pressures, and emerging service challenges are escalated to the Director(s), as appropriate. Working in close collaboration with pathologists, radiologists, clinical leaders, Health Service Administrators, and interdisciplinary partners, the Manager supports integrated service delivery, service continuity, and continuous improvement across Laboratory and Medical Imaging operations. The Manager supports professional practice standards consistent with their regulated or certified discipline (Laboratory or Medical Imaging), and partners with discipline-specific leads, educators, and medical leadership as required.
This position may be based in Fort St John or another community within the Northeast Health Service Delivery Area, regular multi-site travel, and the ability to lead geographically distributed teams in a hybrid environment within an evolving regional Diagnostic Services model.

Starting salary will be approximately from $108,147 to $135,184 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions.

Qualifications
  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent recognized qualification in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Imaging, Health Sciences, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current registration, certification, or eligibility for registration/certification with a recognized regulatory or professional body relevant to the discipline, as applicable.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in Diagnostic Services, Laboratory Services, Medical Imaging, or a related healthcare environment, including progressive supervisory or operational leadership experience (typically three (3) years or more).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting site-based operations, including service delivery, staffing coordination, quality and patient safety activities, and implementation of organizational policies and standards.
  • Experience working in multi-site and/or rural healthcare environments is an asset.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle may be required.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to manage day-to-day operations within a complex, unionized healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of accreditation, regulatory, and professional practice requirements relevant to the individual’s discipline.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to support staff development, coaching, and performance management.
  • Working knowledge of financial and operational processes, including budget monitoring and variance management within delegated authority.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with physicians, clinical leaders, operational partners, and regional leadership.
  • Proficiency with clinical and administrative information systems and the use of data to support operational decision-making.
  • Ability to work effectively in environments characterized by change, complexity, and ambiguity.
